The Hurst Air Force Base Museum is the largest air force museum in the United States. The base was founded on November 3, 1941, when the Texas Air National Guard's 192nd Fighter Squadron moved to Hurst from Waco, Texas. The museum has a collection of more than 60,000 items including aircraft, weapons and equipment from World War II to present day. Admission is free for all visitors.

Today, the wings are still used as insignia within the Air Force and continue to symbolize success and dedication to service.
The Hurst, Texas community is located in the easy-to-poplar and cotton farming belt of East Texas. The town was founded in 1881 by James A. Hurst and his family as a smallonga trading post on the Red River. By 1907, the population had grown to 100 people, and by 1920 it had reached 500. In 1929,Hurst became an independent city with a population of 1,500. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II as its manufacturing base shifted to war production. However, in the postwar years the city began to decline as jobs moved away and crime rates increased. In recent years, however, Hurst has begun to redevelop its downtown district and improve infrastructure such as new schools and streets. James A. Hurst was born in 1851 in Scotland into a Protestant family of farmers who immigrated to North America at about the same time that other Scotsmen started settling down around Houston (then called “ Upper Buffalo”). After completing his high school education in Aberdeen, Scotland, he returned home early in 1881 to take up farming near present-day Huntsville (now Dallas). For three years he operated a smallonga trading post on the Red River; from here he sold goods along the river's course from Wichita Falls (now Wichita) through Tarrant County eastward to Denton County viaBuffalo Bayou crossings. Arrangements were made for him with other fur traders for trade but only when accompanied by two or more men could be sure of getting what they wanted; thus when James A., age 25 year old emigrant officer arrived at present day Hurlbut City limits on October 8th 1881 with 5 others - all men - one might reasonably have expected no less than 2 horses each being offered for exchange - but what they got instead was 3 oxen & 4 head of cows which formed their first outfit including miller James Addison’s son John Jnr.(1) It would not be until November 6th 1880 that another man joined them consisting of Hugh McFarlane also 25 year old Englishman who had come overland route from Canada aboard ship Achilles under Captains Cook & Fergusson(2) after hearing about open country west of Tyler(3) James A.'s business venture began well enough: within weeks they had traded goods worth $5 per bag out of their tiny trading post north of Hurlbut City Limits! And this was only their beginning...the following month they organized themselves into an individual company with 10 boys attending school each day while doing market work between Hurlbut City Limits & Buffalo Bayou crossing – earning $1/day !! But soon things went wrong: disease struck again ebbing Homebound Jimmie Macdonald succumbed suddenlyfrom fever just before Christmas1881 leaving behind wife Rachel aged 26yr note she died December 15th Gertrude married Drury January 14th 1882 so there were 11 children living w/Hurst parents at death David Murchison born March 17th 1883 also survived infancy On January 26th 1886 James Murdoch married Eliza Jane Graybotham who also survived infancy .Now there were 16 children living w/Hurst parents at death . . . . . . Nowhere did these kids spend more time than on Hog Island off Matagorda Creek where they built huts using tree limbs Providence Road today

Hurst is a town in Kendall County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Hurst was John Lubbock, who arrived in 1859. The town was platted in 1871 by J.D. Hinton and named for him. In 1902, the name of the town changed to its present spelling when Commerce National Bank moved into what is now Hurst's courthouse square from downtown Dallas. The bank employed over 100 people at its peak in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1951, Hurricane Amos struck Texas and most of Texas' cotton fields were destroyed or damaged; much of Hurst remained undamaged however many homes were lost as well as a few businesses including Hinton's General Store which reopened with new ownership after being closed for several months during the storm aftermath due to damage.$ In 1960, Hurst established itself as one of westernmost towns inDallas suburb of Fair Oaks when it annexed McGregor Creek Village which consisted of about 30 farmhouses originally built by farmers along McGregor Creek which flowed through the center of town east to west and north to south before meeting up with their creek on Park Road northeast corneringFair Oaks Boulevard (now I-10). In 1970 Arlington Heights annexation created another enclave within Houston just east off I-10 near Beltway 8 between Houston Hobby Airport (I-610) on one side and Interstate 610 on the other side where some residents had been living since they bought their home back from developers some time prior thereto
Hurst, Texas was founded in 1849 by Gideon Herndon and his wife. The town was named for General John B. Hood, who had led the Union army during the Mexican-American War.
