The history of the Huntsville, Texas, National Guard is a long and varied one. The first unit to be organized in the town was the 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment in 1871. The regiment served for three years until it was disbanded due to lack of volunteers. In 1903, the 2nd Texas Infantry Regiment was organized in Huntsville and served for five years before being disbanded. In 1909, the 3rd Texas Infantry Regiment was organized and served for six years before being disbanded due to low numbers. In 1912, the 4th Texas Infantry Regiment was organized and served for eight years before being decommissioned due to low numbers again. In 1932, the 5th Texas Infantry Regiment was organized and serves today as part of the 74th Brigade Combat Team (Air). The regiment has been stationed at Camp Worth since 1955 when it became an Air National Guard unit. Additionally, there have been numerous detachments stationed here over time including: The 43rd Battalion (Air), 73d Squadron (Army) activated on December 12, 1944; The 114th Squadron (Aircraft), activation on July 1st 1945; March 24-August 7th 1951; September 11-15th 1953; October 15-December 9th 1957; January 20-February 8th 1959; May 6-10 1963; August 1966-January 1969 and finally November 1984 through present day. National guard units have also fought in many wars throughout their history such as World War II where they were deployed to California during Operation Neptune’s Spear which helped liberate Japanese held areas including Tokyo Bay while also providing security for UTAH during Black Hawk Down which resulted in two killed by Australian commandos

The history of Huntsville begins with John Hunt who settled here in 1871 after fleeing from Missouri during the American Civil War. Hunt named his new community "HuntsVILLE" after himself and his brother-in-law James Waddell, who had also fled Missouri early in that year. In those days, it was very common for settlers to name their towns after people or things they knew about or were familiar with - thus, HuntVILLE reflected both its namesake's prominence as a business leader and his personal connection to the town via trade visits he made to various parts of Arkansas each year. By 1910, however, HuntsVILLE had shrunk back to just 5 hundred residents due largely to water shortages caused by droughts brought on by climate change. However, even though most residents left over time due to lack of resources or other factors such as World War II bombings that destroyed much property within visiting miles of town center - some remained behind until shortly before its eventual demolition when UAH moved into its present campus site in 1961 - giving birth not just tdto one major university but also one of America's largest metropolitan areas with over 100 million citizens concentrated therein!
