Humble is a city in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 12,643 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Johnson County after Amarillo. Humble is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The history of Humble begins with pioneer settlers James and Deborah Hardin who arrived in 1827 from Kentucky. At first they built a cabin on an upland tract now known as Hardin Rancho. They were followed by their four children: James II (1829-1914), John (1830-1894), Martha Jane (1834-1907) and Anna Julia (1835-1905). In 1853, James II sold his share in the ranch to General Waco Troup for $10,000 cash and 10 acres of land west of town. The Hardins continued to live in Humble until 1886 when they moved to Fort Worth because there was no water available for their farmstead north of town. A year later they sold their land back to Troup for $5,000 cash and 5 acres east of town which became downtown Humble today. In 1903, Gertrude Junker donated her home on Elm Street near Main Street to the City of Humble as a public library building which still stands today. The first municipal election held in Johnson County was held on November 3rd, 1903 with Lula Bowers as mayor and Harry Hindman as clerk; both women were elected unopposed due to lack of candidates that could promote themselves within the community at that time. On October 15th, 1907 Phebe Darden received an application from citizens for incorporation into a village under the name "Humble." On November 5th she submitted her petition with 1st reading having been read three times; it was then referred to Committee on Townsite Issues where approval should have been given since it had not yet been put before voters for ratification or rejection; however this did not happen since no vote occurred on said amendment nor further debate took place leading up to its final passage minutes later which states "It was agreed that Phebe Darden submit another application for incorporation into village form & vote upon same" thus becoming Humble's first Mayor & City Clerk - an event voted upon by citizens without government officials being present! On September 20th 1913 Humble hosted its' first football game against Garland also played at Cedar Hill Stadium; both teams finished with 6 points each resulting in a tiebreaker game played at home between these two teams setting up what would be called "the Cotton Bowl Game". This game would be called off due to World War I putting a stop any further competition between these two cities vying for national attention during this time period although other events such as carnivals might occur while hostilities raged elsewhere outside our borders During World War II many American servicemen resided within the greater Houston area including many members from Ft Sam Houston State University students who had enlisted prior thereto unknowingly attending college classes while engaged full time in military service providing crucial leadership skills throughout those difficult years especially during Texas battlefronts like Alamo Heights or San Antonio Hills . Once again Texarkana came close making contact once again when several thousand Japanese Americans living southcentral TX were rounded up and taken away during late 1943/early 1944 following order from Governor Connally
