Kelly Field remained an active USAF Base until October 1st, 1992 when it was closed due to budget cuts within the military. Humble is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. Humble is located on the eastern edge of Fort Worth and straddles the county line between Tarrant and Parker Counties. It lies midway between Dallas and Fort Worth. The name "Humble" derives from a combination of two words: humble (from Latin "hominum"), meaning low or small in rank or importance, and bourne (a town), meaning boundary or frontier. The original settlers were farmers who landlocked their village on cattle trails leading to Fort Worth. In 1881, they established a new settlement called Humble Heights just east of downtown Dallas on what is now I-635 South. They renamed it after Alexander Hildebrandt Hildebrandt von Hagelberg, an Austrian nobleman who had settled in Texas in 1836 as part of the Texan independence movement and had played an important role in developing Dallas as a center of commerce. The arrival of automobiles brought about increased traffic around Humble Heights so the community developed an infrastructure for handling vehicular traffic including streets, sidewalks, lights, water supplies and parks. With access to major highways such as I-635 and Uptown Road nearby, growth began to occur outside the original boundaries of the town limits which paralleled those around downtownDallas until 1955 when annexation by neighboring Tarrant County created new adjacent town boundaries that continued to follow downtownDallas boundaries until 1975 when all annexed areas were combined into one municipality with its own mayor and City Councilors elected through ward elections rather than from individual districts like prior decades
