Horizon City, Texas is a small town located in Lamar County, Texas. The population was 514 at the 2000 census. Horizon City is one of the oldest cities in Texas and has been around since 1836. The first coffee shop in Horizon City was started by two men named John and James Smith in 1836. The first coffee shop served only coffee and sugar. In 1850, J.Dillingham opened the first store in Horizon City which sold goods such as flour, bacon, eggs, butter, etc. until it closed in 1860 due to financial troubles. In 1865, George Wetherbee opened the second store in Horizon City which became known as Wetherbee's Coffee House & Market Place. This business served food and coffee until it closed in 1868 due to financial troubles again. In 1870, John Hodge opened the third store in Horizon City which became known as Hodge's Coffee House & Brewery afterwards! This business served beer and coffee until it closed for good on October 15th of that year due to a fire that destroyed all of their equipment including their brewing vessel! In 1876-1877, Horace Sauer hosted his very first German/Austriansteak dinner at his house when he moved into town from Dallas after getting married there! It was an event fraught with importance because it marked the beginning of what would become known as "the German sector" of Texan life where Germans were large majorities within certain regions (eastern Travis County being one). At this dinner table sat many influential Texans including Sam Houston (grandson of Houston), James Bowie (husband of former Vice President Alabamian Mary Bowie), David Starr Jordan (future president), Wiley Youngblood (future CEO at ExxonMobil) among others...This dinner helped spur development along German avenue downtown while also showcasing some amazing local cuisine like Schwarte Käsewurst from Schmidt’s Hotel deutsche Gästehaus located on Second Street near Main Street which still serves up delicious servings today!

Horizon City, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlers were farmers who arrived in 1847 from Illinois. Horizon City was platted in 1851 by J.C. White and named for his brother's home on the Canadian River west of Wichita Falls, Kansas. The community grew rapidly due to its location near railroads and its access to water supplies from the Trinity River ( later known as Arkansas River ). By 1870, Horizon City had a school and two churches; it also had a post office and two businesses: one store operated by Wm Sargent and another by Arent Cammons. In 1886, the railroad came through town and stimulated development that included new homes, schools, churches ( including an Episcopal church built in 1903), stores, restaurants and other businesses. In 1907–1910 there was a severe tornado outbreak that damaged many buildings in town including four schools (one destroyed). In 1913 Alpheus Barnes founded the American Tobacco Company which became one of America's largest tobacco companies until it merged with RJR Nabisco in 1996. The city hall building still stands today except for some alterations made during Hurricane Katrina when it served as damage control headquarters for much of downtown Dallas/Ft Worth . The post office closed on October 16th 1970 after more than eighty years serving residents of Horizon City .
