Today, there are several hundred businesses that sell coffee throughout Horizon City. The city has a variety of retail stores (including two grocery stores), cafes and restaurants, as well as a few cafés that serve only coffee.

Horizon, an American businessman and investor who helped found and develop nearby Amarillo. In 1923, Horizon City became an incorporated municipality under the name of Amarillo. In 1971, it reverted to its original name of Horizon City when it merged with nearby Robinsonville to form a single municipality. The cotton industry has since been replaced by other industries such as retail and tourism.

The city continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1910 when it had over 40,000 residents. However, during World War I, Horizon City was heavily bombed by American bombers and suffered significant damage. In 1931, following the completion of Interstate 10 (I-10), Horizon City's population decreased significantly as people began moving away for economic reasons. By 2010, there were only about 7600 people living in Horizon City
