Horizon City is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 14,927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The name "Horizon" comes from Spanish for "the horizon." The first settlement in what is now Horizon City was called Cimarron and was founded about 1835 by General Zachary Taylor. In 1836, Sergeant William Hogg established a trading post on the Brazos River which became known as Hogg's Ferry Landing. On May 20, 1837, President James K. Polk appointed Judge John Sager to manage the Frontier Land Office in Enterprise to help settle land claims of Indian tribes east of the Trinity River. On November 16, 1840sSamuel Houston granted two square miles (8 km²) of land to Horizont City including present-day downtown and all of its fringes except Slaughter Road and portions of Slaughter Creek which flow into Buffalo Bayou near I-10 and US 69/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard
