The United States Navy has been deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm since 1990. The latest deployment, in Hidalgo, Texas took place on November 12th-15th of this year. This was the first time that the USS George Washington (CVN 71) had deployed to Southwest Texas in over a decade. The USS George Washington is a nuclearpowered aircraft carrier and one of the most powerful warships in the US Navy. She is also one of the oldest carriers afloat and has served as flagship for both Admiral Chester Nimitz and Admiral Ernest J. King during their careers as commanding officers of the Pacific Fleet. In her career she has deployments to Deployments throughout Southeast Asia, Caribbean Sea, Arabian Peninsula, Northern Africa and South America. She has played an important role during Desert Storm by providing air cover for coalition forces while also supporting ground operations with her embarked artillery and Aviation Units. Additionally, she provides services to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi which provides KC-135 Stratotankers with landing and take off capability from amphibious ships. This deployment marks a new era for USS George Washington as she undergoes extensive renovation that will include installation of a state-of-the-art bridge module which will make it easier for sailors to connect with shore stations ashore when needed as well as updates to her engine room, machinery room and galley systems which are necessary for operating at high speed inside Iraq’s territorial waters. These upgrades are significant because they will improveUSS George Washington’s readiness both before Expeditionary Operations start next year as well as after they have completed their tour there

Hidalgo, Texas is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Webb County and it was founded in 1892 by John H. Willis. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Hidalgo were people who had come overland from Mexico City during the Mexican Revolution. They named their new settlement after Santa Elena de la junta (Saint Elena's Hill), one of the outposts on the route from Veracruz to Nuevo Laredo that was destroyed by Mexican forces on November 16, 1867. A year later they erected a cabin on what is now Eighth Street. In 1892 John H."Willis" donated land to Webb County for its formation and named it after himself, becoming one of its earliest residents and initial boosters. In 1901 Gertrude “Gyp” Bickle took ownership of a farmstead east of town which she named Camp Bowie after Confederate General Robert Ewing Bowie (1848-1927). Gyp subdivided her land into two parcels in 1908 and sold one parcel to Roy Halliburton for $1,500; he built his home there and called it Camp Bowie II (later renamed White Sands). His successors also developed campgrounds there: Roberts Ranch Park opened in 1915; Big Bend State Park opened in 1937; and finally Jack Straw Springnik Recreation Area opened in 1975. According to The Dallas Morning News columnist Forrest Karnow, "It may have been lack of money or lack of imagination that doomed most such plans - until World War II when spending exploded because then came boom times". However "the townsfolk did not forget theirroots or nostalgia", creating several Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum displays including an exhibit about early Hidalgo resident San Fernando Martinez who served as Postmaster from 1902-04and again from 1916-20and another about ranchers George Washington Polk Jr., Harry Truman Snively Sr., James Weldon Johnson Sr., Wernher von Braun Jr., Harvey Ostroff and others associated with prewar Midwestern oil production.." After WWII many small businesses closed down due to high competition from larger companies but some reopened like Bob's Barbecue which still stands today

Hidalgo quickly emerged as one of the most important cities in Mexico. Its residents were entrepreneurs and rebels who fought for their country’s independence. In 1847, when Guerrero state was created from part of Hidalgo, many of these residents migrated to that area in search of new opportunities. The city experienced significant growth during the early years of Mexican independence. Merchants and artisans moved into Hidalgo from throughout central Mexico to set up shop and create cultural significance for the city. The city also attracted intellectuals, scientists, soldiers, and other professionals who helped contribute toMexico’s nascent republic. Hidalgo suffered some key blows during its earliest years as an independent republic. In 1853, General Antonio López de Santa Anna took control ofMexican forces stationed in Zacatecas province and used them against local resistance movements loyal to Spain. This campaign led to widespread destruction and loss of life among Mexicans struggling for freedom under Spanish rule. Santa Anna also sacked much of downtown Hidalgo during his rampage – a devastating event that destroyed much property and left millions homeless. After Santa Anna’s ouster in 1857, Hidalgo experienced a period of stability until revolutionary fervor swept acrossMexico followingthe death of President Porfirio Díaz in 1895. A series of civil wars followed between various revolutionary groups before finally achieving national status on July 1st 1912 as the Republicof Texas (ROTC). During its history, HidalGO has seen tremendous change both within its walls as well as outside its gates: From being one OFicial center for rebellion against Spanish rule all the way through becoming oneofthe most important global financial capitalsduringthe20th century;HidalGO has gone through so many transformations that it is difficultto keep trackof everything that has happened here! In 1836, Mexican revolutionaries led by José Joaquín de Arana swept through the Texas region and captured Hidalgo, making it their new capital. The town was quickly rebuilt and in 1839 became the terminus of a railroad that linked Mexico City with Austin. The town's commercial and cultural center continued to grow until the late 1800s, when the railroad pulled out of the area.
