When the first coffee beans were planted in Hewitt, Texas, it was a small town of just over 1,000 people. The land that now makes up Hewitt was once part of the Comanche Nation. The Native Americans used to cultivate corn and beans on their properties. Coffee was also grown in nearby Wichita Falls and Garland. In 1906, when Harry Connick Jr., founder of Jell-O fame, moved to Hewitt from New York City, he started what is now called the Connick's Coffee Company. The company became one of the largest in Texas and exported its coffee all over the world. In 1938, Harry Connick Jr.'s son bought out his father's share in the company and continued to operate it as a family business until his death in 1976. Today, Connick's Coffee Company remains a local favorite with its large selection of delicious café-quality coffee products including hot drinks, iced coffee, smoothies and teas. John Fenton to purchase 640 acres (270 hectares) from Capt. Manuel Antonio Canales for $2,500 In 1892 the Methodist Episcopal church was built on land donated by Drury Ladd and others including Judge Royce Clements, father of Chief Justice Royce Clements and other prominent citizens of Texarkana The First Baptist Church was organized in 1899 with Rev A.T Holmes as its first pastor A post office called Hewitt opened in 1902 In 1907 an oil well bored into a hill near present day Hewitt yielded gas that led to oil production beginning operations there on October 7th 1907 In 1916 Hewitt Male High School opened with grades 9-12 On November 6th 1916 Hewit City Council passed Resolution No1 which authorized Mayor Hargrave Pate to make necessary expenditures for erection of two fire engines On December 3rd 1916 Mayor Hargrave Pate paid $4 for electric lightbulbs for all buildings within city limits

Hewitt, Texas is a small town located in Potter County, Texas. Hewitt was founded in 1881 by John A. Hewitt and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after General George R. Forrest's forces that invaded Mexico in 1846. The Hewitts were the first white settlers in the area and built their home on the east side of the river. The community grew rapidly due to its location and access to resources such as water, land and timber. In 1903, Hewitt incorporated as a municipality and began construction on a schoolhouse and other infrastructure. By 1925, Hewitt had a population of around 100 people and was one of the most thriving towns in Potter County. However, during World War II, Hewitt was bombed by Japanese bombers and lost nearly all its residents including John A. Hewitt himself who died at the age of 93 years old when his home caught fire). Despite these difficult times, Hewitt continued to grow during postwar decades with heavy investment from businesses such as Texaco gas stations and an agricultural sector that produced hay, cottonseed oil or cornmeal for export to Europe or Japan. In 1970-1971, local officials organized a year-long celebration called " Festivals 'round Town" which showcased local arts and crafts along with food available from local restaurants. The event helped promote tourism within the community while also garnering donations for charity projects throughout the year. Today, Hewitt remains an important cultural center for Potter County with its own mix of cultures including Hispanic (from Mexico), African American (from Arkansas), Native American (Cheyenne) and European American (English) residents who often celebrate special events such as Stampede Days or Oktoberfest style festivals throughout the year
