It served as an amphibious assault vessel until 1984, when it was redesignated USS Carl Vinson (CVN-71). It was decommissioned again in 1998 and sold to Taiwan for use as a navy unit.
Hewitt is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Hewitt is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite of Hewitt was named for David L. Hewitt, who sold land to the present-day town in 1881. The first post office was established in 1885 and was called "Meadowbrook." The name "Hewitt" was chosen by Wm. H. Whitman, who donated land to the town in 1886 as part of a gift to his wife Anna Dickinson Whitney on their wedding day. Today's namesake has been with thetown since it incorporation date on November 15, 1912 In 1909, when McLennan County became co-extensive with Dallas County (through annexation), Hewitt became one of seventeen towns included within Dallas Township (later called Arlington Heights). On July 16, 1914, due to an appeal from citizens of Arlington Heights and other nearby communities that were successfully fighting annexation into Dallas Township but not receiving mail service from their new township counterparts due to construction work near US 75 and I-35W intersections - including Arlston Heights -Dallas Township voted 3-1 to secede from Dallas County and become an independent municipality known today as Arlington Heights In 1916 plans were submitted for a school district which would include all of eastern McLennan County; however because no appropriation had been made for such a program and because many residents wanted Austin or Houston neighborhoods within the proposed district instead – primarily because they thought those areas would be annexed into Arlington Heights – nothing came of the proposal until after World War II whenupon Reconstruction began local property values plummeted making annexation more likely In 1948 when voting results showed that over ninety percent of residents living within what would now be District 2(now portions of Flower Mound) opposed annexation into Arlington Heights; again due to pressure from resident's groups plenary session was held whereupon on December 9th control over District 2 passed 6-2 via vote without objection from then Mayor James Pumphrey – its current form dating back to 1974 . In 1954 citizens organized “Hewitt Civic Association” which solicited donations for building projects then met regularly throughout the year both inside and outside City Hall where decisions about activities like meeting minutes were made without need for consensus or notice given that whatever measure transpired at these meetings would be reported back upstairs through concurrent resolutions therefore any protest or dissent resulted immediately in expulsion rather than trying something new/constructive each time .. On October 5th 1957 during Phillips School massacre occurred when Jack Ruby killed six people & wounded thirteen others at Dealey Plaza following presidential address by JFK & Vice Presidential candidate LBJ ; following ambush attempt on UPI cars parked near White House lawnRubytelephone callfromMayorJamesPumphreytomembersofHAVAC team asking if they could move car #7 away from President’s Park so he wouldn’t have snipers shooting at him ........... This incident helped lead to passage of Texas Public Information Officer Act which prohibited anyone under contract with state government from providing information about any political event taking place anywhere in Texas

Hewitt was founded by John Hewitt in 1834. The town was named for John, son of George Hewitt. In 1881, the Texas Railroad Company built a line from Cedar Park to Wichita Falls. The company opened up the town and renamed it Hewitt. In 1907, the Texas Legislature created the County of Limestone to include parts of present-day Hewitt and other towns in Limestone County.
