The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History Program began in the late 1940s when General James Forrestal, then Chief of Staff of the USAF, directed that all senior military leaders have a personal gift from one of their subordinates. The purpose of this program was to show appreciation for service and heroism. It continued through World War II as gifts were given to members of the armed forces on various assignments around the world. In 1948, Air Force General Hoyt S. Vandenberg created the Air Force Deployment Gift History Museum at Patrick AFB in Oklahoma City, which housed over 4,000 gift items from members of the USAF and its predecessor organizations worldwide. Since its inception, the AFDHP has traveled to more than 25 countries and enjoyed Cordoba Bluegrass Festival performances by bluegrass Legends like Peter Rowan and Jimmy Buffet at Craig Ranch Park in Hendersonville, Texas on October 15th & 16th!

Henderson, Texas is a small town in the TX Hill Country. It is located on the east side of Henderson Valley and it is bordered by Sweetwater to the north, Midlothian to the south, and Williamson County to the west. The population was 2,824 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in Henderson were white men who came overland from Austin in 1836. They started a sawmill and erected a cabin near what is now Main Street. A post office was established in 1839, and business grew until 1861 when Confederate forces burned down the mill. The town was founded by Nathaniel Henderson, an Englishman who immigrated to America in 1848. He platted out what are now east side streets and built two churches – one for Methodists and one for Presbyterians – as well as a schoolhouse and store.sv This early Hendrickson had few outside influences either good or bad because there were no organized militias then or even later in this area which greatly affected development of today’s community characteristics including its strong agricultural heritage that has made it one of central Texas’ top agriculture producers; large number of dairy cows (a forerunner of modern day Beef cattle) due to fertile loess soils; high percentage of oak trees (25%); many wells drilled during its history; industrial growth began with oil exploration around 1920-1921 followed by various manufacturing undertakings until World War II when ranching took over economy
