The Texas Air National Guard (TANG) deployed an air force unit in Harlingen, Texas in 1942. The first squadron was activated on November 15th of that year and the last squadron was activated on October 9th of 1945. The TANG deployments in 1942 and 1945 were to provide aerial support for American forces during World War II. These deployments also served as a training opportunity for airmen from the TANG. In 1947, the TANG disbanded and its assets were transferred to the Air Force Reserve Command (AFC). In 1951, the AFC organized itself into Tactical Air Command (TAC) and moved its headquarters from Travis AFB to Harlingen AFB. On December 6th of 1957, TAC organized itself as Tactical Air Servicerons (TASS) which provided fighter-bomber support for United States military operations in Southeast Asia. On September 26th of 1964, TASS was redesignated as Operation Eagle's Nest which became operational on October 1st of that year. The purpose of Operation Eagle's Nest was to provide aerial refueling ops over North Vietnam while providing cover for US ground troops fighting against North Vietnamese forces. From 1969 until 1971,Operation Drake's Dozen involved flying missions over South Vietnam providing intelligence collection and battlefield dominance capabilities over southern Laos
When the United States Air Force deployed a gift of air force surplus equipment to its combat partners during Operation Inherent Resolve, it demonstrated its commitment to interoperability and joint operations. The air force's Surplus Equipment Truck unit donated more than 350 pieces of surplus military hardware, including weapons systems and aircraft parts, to Iraqi allies in Baghdad during the monthlong deployment. This donation was part of the USAF's "No More Tears" campaign which aims to reduce civilian casualties in Iraq through the donation of surplus military hardware. The air force is committed to reducing civilian casualty rates in Iraq by any means necessary. Through No More Tears, the USAF is providing valuable assistance that will help Iraqis who are fighting for their lives. By donating surplus military hardware, the USAF is able to improve interoperability between coalition forces and support additional missions such as security assistance and stabilization efforts. Additionally, this donation helps promote transparency within Iraqi government structures and allows for better monitoring of potential battlefield abuses by insurgents. This type of generosity isn't just limited to Iraq; similar donations have been made by other countries in support ofOperation Inherent Resolve. These donations represent an important symbol of US support for our allies onthe ground and underscore US commitments to effective counterterrorism operations across all regionsof the world.

Harlingen, Texas is located in the extreme northwest corner of Texas and straddles the border of New Mexico. The city was founded by Danish immigrants in 1867 as a small trading post near what is now Ciudad Juárez. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as a center for cattle ranching, farming, and mining. In 1911, Harlingen became an independent municipality, and in 1928 it incorporated as a city. The population of Harlingen peaked at over 100,000 in the 1940s but has declined since then. Today, it has a population of around 30,000. The City of Harlingen was established on October 1st 1867 by Danish immigrants to serve as a small trading post near present day Ciudad Juárez in northwestern New Mexico (now El Paso County). The town quickly grew due to its location surrounded by extensive cattle ranching lands that were ideal for raising livestock. Mining opportunities also became available during this time period with nearby Comstock Lode mines providing arsenic and other valuable minerals. By 1911 Harlingen had become an independently municipality with its own government which led to rapid growth within the community including annexation into neighboring municipalities such as Las Cruces in 1912 and Socorro in 1924. In 1928 Harlingen incorporated into City of Dallas under state law following passage of the National Recovery Act (NRA). This act provided assistance to struggling American cities through loans and investment dollars while helping spur economic development across America. As part of Dallas’ transformation into an urban area following World War II, many new businesses were opened within the boundaries of downtown including Jardin Cafeteria & Diner which would open their doors for business on December 10th 1945 just days after Japan bombed Hiroshima killing tens thousand people

From 1966 to 1970, the USAF deployed Gift History helicopters with the Sikorsky Model MH-53A Raven. In 1991, the USAF deploy Gift History planes with the Boeing 747SP Airlift aircraft. Today, Gift History is a long tradition within the USAF and it continues to this day with different types of aircraft deployments including cargo planes and bombers.

The town name is derived from the word "harlingen" meaning "a well-watered place." Harlingen was also home to an early cotton plantation and a white cotton gin. In 1881, it was renamed for Major General James B. Harland, who commanded American forces during the Mexican War. The city experienced a significant growth period following its incorporation as a municipality in 1907. In 2013, Harlingen had a population of 382 residents. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County and has several cultural attractions, including an art museum, a stadium, and an outdoor basketball court.

The city's first mayor, A.J. Simpson, was also its first African American mayor. In 1957, Harlingen merged with neighboring Luling to form the new City of Luling.
