Known as Operation Neptune’s Spear, this engagement resulted in five submarines sinking eleven German ships – including two battleships and three cruisers – leaving thirty-one dead and more than two hundred injured aboard those vessels. This was one of the largest attacks ever mounted by submariners against enemy shores, and it helped contribute to America’s victory in World War II overall. Harker Heights is a town in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name Harker Heights comes from James Harker, who bought land there in 1881 and started a cotton plantation. Harker Heights was founded on July 1, 1887 by J.D. Harker and his brother John Denton. They named their town after James Harker's plantation in Alabama where they were born and raised. The first post office was established in 1889 under the name of "Edmonton." In 1906, the post office changed its name to "Harker Heights." The first school in Harker Heights was built in 1893 by Mrs. Ira Aikenberger and Mr. Geo Mears as a one-room schoolhouse with twelve students teaching themselves cipher algebra while attending church services on Sundays morning together until 1906 when a new school building was erected which still serves as the town's primary educational institution today. By 1900, five other schools had also been built: three elementary schools (grades K-2), one high school (grades 3-12), an Agricultural School (now known as Southern Methodist University) and a Industrial School which opened in 1912 called “The Works” for boys only because it offered manufacturing training for local farmers during World War I; two years later it became known as “The Old Technical School” due to changes made to the building which included adding an assembly line for making munitions used during World War II before it closed its doors forever in 1945 due to differences with state requirements for industrial education programs following World War II . Since then there have been several attempts at reopening “The Old Technical School” including ones starting around 2006 but no further progress has been made until now due to financial reasons; however some people are hoping that since President Donald Trump recently talked about plans for rebuilding various old factories across America – including those located within ten miles of Dallas – maybe this will finally be done soon!
