The Harker Heights Coast Guard District was established on July 1, 1939. The original unit consisted of five men. It grew to ten men by the end of World War II. On January 1, 1951, the coast guard district was redesignated as the Harker Heights Coast Guard Station. On October 15, 1963, a new station was built at present day Harker Heights. This station became operational on November 3, 1963. In 1978, an annex was added to this station in order to accommodate more personnel and supplies. On December 20th of that year, a new commandant was appointed to the coastguard district which included duties such as disciplining members of the crew and leadership functions within the corps. Finally on May 21st 1984 a new harbor master position opened up with responsibility for all aspects of maritime traffic in and around Harker Heights Marina including security for boats and vessels docking there as well as controlling access thereto from outside entities
Harker Heights is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex located in Travis County, Texas. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded by Judge James A. Harker in 1881 as a fur trading post on the banks of the Trinity River. After his death in 1883, his wife and son took control of the post and continued to trade until 1927 when it became a ghost town due to prohibition. In 1925, General Motors began producing cars at its plant near Denton and soon after other large companies followed suit. In 1928 Harker Heightsbecame an important center for GM production with many employees living there including John DeLorean who designed and built his first car from scratch atGM's Arlington Assembly Plant. The plant closed in 1971 but parts of it remain extant as the GM Research Center downtown (now called University Park). Harker Heights experienced rapid growth during World War II with many new homes being built on top of what were once GM plants. However following World War II, most manufacturing stopped and although some jobs did continue they generally became lower paying positions rather than those that would have been available had manufacturing continued unchanged or even increased marginally across industry levels throughout much of American history prior to this time period; however this has changed dramatically over recent decades since technology has led to mass production all manner of goods now regardless of craftsmanship which has driven down cost while also increasing quality standards such as customer service expectations today three times what they were 50 years ago before deregulation caused consolidation among manufacturers thus making these same types old fashioned failing factories into "unicorns" only requiring 2% Staff wages/year against 30-40%+ staff wage costs globally today for very high tech startups). Harker Heights is located on I-10 Exit 145 just east off exit ramp from I-35W northbound onto TX 123rd Street NE then east onto TX 174th Avenue NE continuing southeast into Ross County along US 77 corridor approximately 11 miles until terminating at exits 7A & B on FM 546 about 8 miles east from downtownDallas

Today, the Coast Guard provides a wide range of services including Search and Rescue; public awareness campaigns; maritime transport safety; border protection; homeland defense; fisheries management; environmental compliance; disaster preparedness/response; communications infrastructure development/ refurbishment/maintenance (C2D); drug interdiction/smuggling detection and prevention mission area assignments (EPA-DIPP); icebreaker missions (ICESAT) ;and counter-narcotics patrols in support of national security objectives such as counterterrorism duties . The influx of commerce and services led to a rapid increase in development within the town limits. In recent years, however, Harker Heights has undergone significant transformation - most notably with the construction of Interstate 10 across town in 2006. This major road investment has led to increased commercial development within Harker Heights and a corresponding decrease in residential property values.
