The first coffee beans were roasted in Groves, Texas by J.C. Higgins in 1892. The first coffee shop in Groves was opened in 1906 and was called the Coffee House. In 1944, the Groves Coffee Company was founded and continued to roast coffee until it closed in 1951.
Groves is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The first record of settlement in Groves was made in 1881 when J.D. Richardson and his family came from Illinois to settle on a ranch near present-day Grand Prairie. By 1886, Groves had a post office and two churches: First Baptist and Second Methodist. The town motto was "Grow without help." In 1907, George W Woodruff became pastor of First Baptist Church in Groves and began the construction of what would become the current brick church building that stands today on Main Street in Groves. In 1912, Mrs Fannie McGee built the first school building for students inGrove which still stands today along with several other buildings used by various schools throughout history including high school (1927), middle school (1929), and now Grades 6-8 public school (2010). The city was named after General Sam Houston Reed who fought during the Mexican-American War for Texas independence from Mexico under Ulysses S Grant's command

Polk announced that Groves would become Polk County's seat after he won election to succeed Santa Anna as president of Mexico.[4] The only other city within Texas larger than Groves by population is Austin; however Austin proper had a population of 628,598 as of July 1st 2020 while Groveston had a population just under 350 residents according to the most recent census data which goes back to 1910[5]. In terms size it falls outside what we would consider as "big" cities for Texans like Austin or Houston but does rank pretty high up there for towns/cities with less than 100 residents when taking into account both2010 and 2020 census figures
