The Glenn Heights Army Base was established in 1917 and served as a training ground for the Texas National Guard. In 1951, the base was closed and it became a USAF military installation. The United StatesArmy Garrison of Glenn Heights continued to exist until 1968 when it merged with Fort Hood Military Airfield to form Fort Hood Air Force Base. In 2001, the USArmy garrison at Glenn Heights was renamed Fort Bliss Army Garrison after Major General David H. McIntyre, Jr., Commander of Combat Arms Forces Europe. In December 1944, Major General James Elledge assumed command of I Troop/4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment from Colonel John Mabry Smith who had been commanding unit since February 1943. On 15 January 1945 under orders from Lieutenant General Omar Bradley III Headquarters Tenth Corps commander located on Gaylord Road just east of I-10 about 10 miles south of Baghdad near Hill 852 approximately 25 miles SSW Baghdad Texas LtGen JEB Stuart Commanding Third Army arrived and took over command of the brigade which included elements A & B Companies 9th Infantry Regt Cmdr Maj Wernher Von Braun’s 13th Space Squadron activated on 1st Jan 45 at Anzio On 20 January 1945 Maj Stewart (Cmdr) reported that “enemy bombers have bombed our airfields again” he ordered his men not to take cover but continue to fight despite heavy losses so far that night Rpt Coombs Capt Knoppers 2d Plt Lt Dibblee 3d Plt Sgt Morehead led into action some 50 yards from objective using knapsack grenades against Japanese machine gunners engaging them hand grenades killed one and capturing three prisoners who gave their names as: Takeuchi Hirobumi ( age 21), Yoshioka Tadatoshi ( age 18), Kenzo Sawamura ( age 17). Glenn Heights is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and it is also included within the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Glenn Heights was founded in 1887 by people from Scotland who immigrated to Texas. The original name for Glenn Heights was "Dundee". In 1922, the name changed to "Glenn Heights" after J. B. Glenn became its first mayor. The town's economy depends on agriculture and ranching. There are also several small businesses in Glenn Heights that provide services such as plumbing, carpentry, laundry and grocery stores. There are a few schools in Glen Heights: Glenn High School (grades 9 through 12), Byrd Elementary School (5-8), and McCullough Middle School (9-12). There are no public libraries in Glenhollows; however, there is one library located in Arlington which serves the community of Glenwood Springs

The Glenn Heights community in unincorporated Webb County, Texas, was established in the early 1800s by Scottish immigrants. The Scots-Irish first settled in what is now the town of Glenn Heights on a large cattle ranch that they purchased from the Mexican government. In 1859, Nathan Bedford Forrest, an American Confederate general and founder of the Ku Klux Klan, moved to Webb County and began to develop this area as a stronghold for white supremacy. The community became known as "the Hoodoo Town" because of its high concentration of KKK members and other supremacists. In 1939, Maynard Jackson, an African American sharecropper who had worked in Glenn Heights since before it was a community, founded Johnson City High School there. The black school helped create some civility within the local white community after years of tension between them over race. In 1961, when Webb County merged with McLennan County to form Tarrant County, most residents of Glenn Heights chose to move away and leave their homes behind. However, a few family members continued to live there until 1974 when they sold their property to the county for development into what is now Glen Heights Village. Today, Glenn Heights remains an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) with no municipal services provided by either Webb or Tarrant Counties. It is home to a small population of people who remember how life was back in those days and enjoy hiking and exploring its many attractions which include cultural heritage sites such as Johnson City High School and Fort Worth's Glenbrook Park Historic District
The Glenn Heights Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The district includes a number of buildings and sites dating back to the early 1800s.
