In 1903, the 1st Battalion was re-established at Guantanamo Bay and then deployed to Belleau Wood during World War I where they fought under General John Pershing. After World War I ended, the battalion returned home in 1920 and again served during World War II under General MacArthur. While serving here, they helped contribute to victory over Japan in 1945.
