In 1907, Gatesville was named the county seat of East County. The population increased to 100,000 by 1910, but it declined to 50,000 by 1920. The decline continued until the early 1990s when there were over 60,000 residents in Gatesville and its surrounding rural areas. The growth of tech startups has led to new businesses and industries being established in Gatesville and nearby towns since the late 1990s. Gatesville is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,219 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gatesville was founded in 1872 and named for Wm. H. Gates, an early settler. The first store in Gatesville was established by J.F. Cotten and his son-in-law Jno. Ladd on Main Street in 1872. The store operated until it burned down in 1903. A post office was established at Gatesville in 1872, and remained in operation until 1907; it was then moved to Round Rock.[1] In 1902, the Atchison Elevator Company built a railroad station at Gatesville; it served as the town's primary transportation link until 1935 when the railway line was discontinued.[2] Gatesville has several large local businesses that are still active today such as Advance Truck Lines (now Advancetrucking),[3] Riddle's grocery,[4] and First National Bank of Gatesville (now First National Bank of Round Rock).[5] In addition to these notable businesses, there are also several smaller businesses that exist within the community including two banks (First National Bank and M&M's Hardware), two convenience stores/grocery stores (), three restaurants (), one bar ().[6][7][8][9]

Gatesville is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 806 at the 2010 census. Gatesville was founded in 1881 by General James Shields and his wife, Fannie Shields. Gatesville was named for Acton Gates, an American general who fought in the Mexican War and in the Philippine–American War. The first post office in Gatesville was established on May 25, 1881. The town plat was filed on November 3, 1881. On January 20, 1886, Gatesville became a city under the jurisdiction of Hudspeth County. On February 17th of that year Mayor John Cockerill granted charter to the new City Council with Samuel Jenson as president pro tem (vice president). In 1907 when Hudspeth County elected its first Republican mayor Poindexter opposed within this party’s organization which made him unelectable so he resigned from office effective March 1st 1907 setting off a legal battle between Poindexter and county officials about succession tooffice if he did not die suddenly before then which Poindexter won handily due to lack of evidence although some say it actually happened becausePoindexter had contracted pneumonia during the campaign) On October 5th 1909 there were several earthquakes located just east of downtown gatesville causing widespread destruction however no one died or were injured On December 17th 1914 Gatesville citizens gave up their right to vote for World War I draft purposes leading to what is known as "The Gadsden Revolution." This event started when officers from Frontiers Squadron stopped into town on their way back home from fighting in Mexico and demand food and water supplies be given back to citizens
Gatesville was founded by General Sam Houston in 1836. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Brazos River and its access to cotton fields. The town was named after General Houston's father, John Gates. In 1839, Gatesville became the capital of East Texas, a region that later became West Texas. During the Mexican-American War (1846-48), Gatesville supported Mexico while East Texas sided with the United States. After the war, Gatesville reverted to American control and continued to grow as a rice mill and manufacturing center. By 1907, Gatesville had become one of the largest towns in East Texas with a population of over 100,000 people. The city also developed into a major cattle market and served as an important transportation hub for eastern Texans during the 20th century.
