Both businesses operated under one roof until 1982 when both men decided it was time for them to move on different paths… but their memories ofGalena Park remain strong! In that year, Don founded his own coffee company called The Dallas Coffee Company which would later become known as The Dallas Morning News! One year later (1983), Johnnie reopened his own café as the first location in Galena Park designated specifically as a “Coffee Roast Place”! This designation meant a lot because it allowed him more freedom with his beans than he could ever imagine! Galena Park is a small town in Galveston County, Texas, United States. It was founded on December 6, 1853 by J.D. Galbraith and his wife, Sarah Warnes. The population was 2,500 at the time of its incorporation. The first post office in Galena Park was opened on January 1, 1854. In 1865, a store and livery were built and the community became known as "Galena." In 1896, the name was changed to "Galveston" after it became the county seat of Galveston County. The post office continued to be open until 1935. The old courthouse building still stands today and is used for storage purposes. Galveston Island is located in Galveston Bay between what is now downtown Galveston and Point Comfort proper. The island has been inhabited by various cultures since pre-historic times including the Iñupiat Eskimos who lived there during the 18th century; Spanish colonists who built Fort San Diego there in 1699; French colonists who established Fort St Anthony in 1760; British soldiers who camped on the island during World War II; and American sailors who landed there during Operation Crossroads in 1945 As early as 1840s some people had been eyeing up land alonggalveston bayou for settlement because of its potential shipping routes connecting Mexico City with points westward across America through Houston Ship Channel . By 1851 several companies had come up with plans to settle here but lack of resources thwarted their ambitions . On December 6th John D Galt (a planter) organized a company called "The First Hundred", which bought two lots near present day Houston Street about three miles east of present day Galena Park from Abram Van Fleet (a brother-in-law of J D Galt). They started building their house on this lot on December 9th 1830 . This new settlement came to be known as 'Galen park'. There were no schools or churches until after 1850 when German missionaries set up parishes here among local Native Americans beginning baptisms that year leading to denominational growth over time Galt's original home still stands today dating back to 1830
Galena Park was founded in 1875 as a small trading post on the Brazos River. The town quickly grew and by 1887, Galena Park had a school, Methodist Church, jail, and several businesses. By 1912, Galena Park had an population of over 1,000 people and was home to a railroad depot, grocery store, cotton gin, sawmill, hotel and two churches. In 1928 the town was renamed Dallas after Dallas County was created from parts of Texas A&M University and Dallas city Limits were set out.
