Galena Park is a small town located in north-central Texas. Galena Park was founded in 1885 by Irish immigrants, and it has been home to many businesses and families since that time. The town has experienced a number of changes over the years, including annexation by Dallas in 1907, the arrival of the railroads in the 1920s, and most recently, the growth of Motorola Mobility. Today, Galena Park remains a small community with rich history and culture. Starting out as a small farming village, Galena Park quickly became known for its production of maize (a type of corn) and for its livestock husbandry skills. In addition to their agriculture pursuits, the early Galenas also developed some notable businesses - such as a millinery store and post office. By 1907, however, annexation by Dallas had made Galena Park an even more important player on the local scene. That year, Dallas incorporated the village into its city limits - ensuring that Galena Park would always be associated with its larger neighbor to the south. Over time, downtownGalenaPark began to experience significant growth - thanks both to new development along Interstate 10 W and increased traffic levels caused by motor vehicle manufacturing plants scattered throughout North Texas during this time period. By 1970 or so however, downtown's popularity had waned somewhat due largely to increasing crime rates within reach of most residents; furthermore access to much needed public amenities had become increasingly difficult or unavailable within walking distance at best. In recent years there have been several efforts underway within our community towards revitalization - spearheaded initially by Mayor Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg with funding from Google parent company Alphabet Incorporated (GOOGL). Initial successes have included renovation of portions of downtownAvenueB; installation of new streetlights ; creation/installation of art galleries ; establishment/promotion/supportive funding for music festivals ; etc... In short we feel like our effort is making headway but more needs to be done!
The Galena Park community was founded in 1876 by Germans who had settled in the area after escaping religious persecution in Germany. The community originally consisted of a few German-speaking families, but over time, English and other languages were spoken as well. The community center was built in 1909 and is now used as a public library. In 1918, Galena Park hosted the World's Columbian Exposition which showcased American technology and culture to a global audience.
