Tactical Coffee is a coffee company that has been in business since 1978. The company was started by two friends, John and Linda White. Linda had worked at the local grocery store and John, who was a truck driver, had discovered that he liked to drink coffee while driving. They decided to start their own business and Manufacturing began in 1978. In 1984, Tactical Coffee became an American-owned company. In 2003, they opened their first café in Gainesville, Texas. On December 20, 1836, Gainesville was founded by Captain James W. Hogg and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for General John C. Gaines who had just defeated Mexican forces at the Battle of San Jacinto. The first post office in Gainesville opened on January 1, 1837. Gainesville quickly became a busy center for trade and commerce with its natural resources such as timber and waterpower. In 1845, the Texas Railroad Company built a line from Dallas to Gainesville providing transportation necessary to grow the city’s economy. In 1861, Confederate soldiers burned down the town during the Civil War while it remained under Union control. In 1865, after the war ended, both sides restored order in Gainesville and it returned to its previous status as a small farming community until around 1930 when it began to experience rapid growth due to new industrial development in nearby Austin.
