Air Force Deployed Gift History in Gainesville, Texas dates back to the early days of World War II when the United States Air Force had only two squadrons. In 1942, those two squadrons were combined into one. The 1st Bombardment Squadron was activated at Moody Field, Florida on November 3rd and deployed to North Africa on December 8th. Upon returning from that deployment, they became a part of Ninth Air Force which was stationed in Egypt. On January 20th 1943, the 1st Bombardment Squadron moved to Alamogordo Army Airfield and began operations as the 4th Bombardment Squadron. They flew missions against targets in Europe such as Paris and Berlin. On May 22nd 1943, they were redesignated as the 5th Bombardment Squadron and becoming operational again for combat in the European Theater of Operations (ETO). They flew strategic bombers such as B-24 Liberators during their combat time with Ninth Air Force. Inactivated on July 15th 1945 at Pyrenees Airportrophosphate France due to lack of aircraft replacement capability in that theater of operations during World War II.

Gainesville is a small town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was platted in 1887 by John A. Gaines and named for him after his father's native land of Gainesville, England. The first post office was established in 1889, and the first store opened in 1890. gainesville grew slowly until World War I when it experienced an influx of soldiers and their families who needed food and shelter. After the war ended, Gainesville exploded with growth due to new industry such as farming, logging, manufacturing and ranching which attracted people from throughout central Texas. During the early 2000s there was much debate over whether or not to build a shopping mall in Gainesville because of concerns about traffic congestion within the town limits caused by its large number of automobiles per capita. Ultimately, this decision did not come to fruition because local businesses were able to find other locations less impacted by traffic congestion. Today, Gainesville enjoys a vibrant cultural scene which includes several performing arts venues including The Cain Center for Performing Arts and Arboretum Theatre; two high school districts; several churches; two restaurants; three full service stores; one family amusement park; four water parks; six golf courses; five tennis courts; five miles (8 km) of trails ;and two elementary schools serving grades PK-6th grade students from east side neighborhoods located on Halls Creek Road west side neighborhoods near Lamar High School.. Gainesville, Texas is a small town in Vernon County, Texas. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Texarkana metropolitan area. The first settlers in Gainesville were people from Kentucky who came to live on a cattle ranch that was owned by James Aitkin. In 1867, the United States government granted land to the community for school purposes and it became known as "Gainesville School District". The townsite was named after General Hugh Ewart Gaines who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as Commandant of Fort Worth during Reconstruction. In 1928, gainesville opened its high school which had been built on land donated by George W. Brazelton Jr.. The building now stands as the only remaining structure from that time period in Gainesville. In 1960, when Vernon County merged with Dallas County, Gainesville became one of nine municipalities within Dallas County. The local economy has centered around agriculture since its establishment and today there are several agricultural businesses in town including Agro-Fertilizer Company (AFC), Brown Brothers Farms (BBF), Dairy Queen (DQ) and Grain Processing & Elevator Company (GP&E). There are also a few small businesses scattered throughout town such as CVS Pharmacy and Bob's Barber Shop. There has been no major change to the local demographics or economic landscape since 2000 when NASA moved out of their original site in nearby Grapevine and all but one office building was replaced by single family homes; however, housing prices have increased significantly over that time period making Gainesville an increasingly desirable location for commuters located outside of Amarillo or Texarkana.
