Today, the Navy has two locations in Friendswood- USS Houston (CG 58) and USS San Jacinto (CG 53). The San Jacinto is home to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the USS Porter Museum of History. In 2006, the Houston Chronicle featured an article about how naval ships have been used in many different ways throughout history. This included mentions of the Battle of Galveston and Operation Neptune's Spear which took place during World War II.
