The Coast Guard has been in Friendswood, Texas since 1912. The first Coast Guard station was built on the present site of theFriendswood Mall in 1917. In 1951, theFriendswood Bluffs were dedicated as a Coast Guard Station. The station relocated to its current location on FM 1960 in Friendswood in 1964. Since 2001, when the Friendswood Marina opened and began operation,theCGCG has provided service to much of north Texas and portions of Mexico with its large fleet of boats and helicopters. In 2017-2018, friendswood coast guard personnel responded to more than 450 incidents acrossFriendswoodand Brazoria counties alone!
