Fredericksburg is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Fredericksburg was John Wesley Hardin in 1846. He founded a trading post called Hardin's Station on the Brazos River. By 1853, hardin's station had grown to be an important center for trade with the Mexican Empire and east Texas settlers such as Tom Green and James Bowie built their homes around it. A large cotton gin was also built here in 1861 by General Sam Houston to process cotton imported from Egypt and other parts of the world. The town prospered until 1865 when Confederate forces captured it during the Battle of Fredericksburg. The Union army burned down most of the town before withdrawing from Texas that same year. In 1892, Fredericksburg became part of Tarrant County following its creation from portions of Dallas and Fort Worth Counties following statehood within Texas on November 3, 1907. In 1909, Fredericksburg voters approved annexation by Dallas which occurred on December 2nd that year A new courthouse was completed in 1912 and dedicated by then-Governor Price Pemberton The community experienced rapid growth after World War II when electronics companies began to locate in nearby Irving (the original name for this city). Fredericksburg, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Fredericksburg has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. The name "Fredericksburg" originated from General James George Fredericks's victory over Mexican forces at Ramseur's Farm on July 12th 1836. A decade later, Union General William T. Sherman and his army entered what is now Hudspeth County and burned all of the homes of Confederate sympathizers in what became known as the Battle of Fredericksburg (October 13-15). Most historians agree that this event helped spark Texans' demand for secession from the Union. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell attacked Union troops stationed at Fort Hood in southeast Texas under orders from Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Lieutenant Colonel John Wesley Powell leads an attack on Ewell's force with about 150 men at dawn on November 8th 1861 that ultimately fails due to heavy losses for both sides - only two soldiers are killed and thirteen wounded; Powell himself was captured alive by Federal troops after leading a breakout attempt which lost him his commission prize. This abortive assault represents one of many high-profile failures by Confederate forces during its attempt to retake Texas; it also marked one of just six times in American history that an individual soldier has been successfully executed for participation in operations against Ulysses S Grant's army (the others being Nathan Bedford Forrest and Albert Sidney Johnston). On December 14th 1861 Governor Bullock issued a proclamation ordering all male citizens between 20 and 60 years old to enroll in military service within 24 hours or face martial law; if not enrolled within seven days they were subject to arrest and execution without trial or opportunity for appeal; enrollment began immediately.[1] Of those who responded, around 95% enlisted into military service within three months - most served as infantrymen or cavalry troopers while some served as cooks/waiters/petrol jockeys/firemen/and more limited roles such as artillery observers etc.;[2][3] however due largely to lack of arms available locally much violence took place before any significant combat occurred throughout 1862 including several murders targeting black civilians living near Fort Worth Roadsville across state lines (parties responsible include White vigilantes) . On May 10th 1863 following their successful siege of Fort Worth by well-armed Texan militia led by Captain Emmett O'Neal – now Commandant Fifth Brigade Sixth Illinois Infantry Regiment under General John Crain – Federals Surrendered unconditionally giving up almost all their munitions including cannons along with 2 million rounds expended thus effectively ending military resistance throughout much present day TX .
