Fredericksburg, Texas was founded in 1879 by John H. Fredericks and became an important military base during the American Civil War. The city’s coffee industry began to grow after Union forces relocated soldiers to the area for their winter encampments in 1881. The first Dutch-owned coffee house in Fredericksburg opened its doors in 1883. By 1886, local merchants had developed a taste for Columbian beans and started selling them directly to consumers. In 1895, a French-owned plantation near Fredericksburg produced its first shipment of beans from Brazil. This new interest in Brazilian coffee led to increased production at the plantations and helped drive down prices for Colombian beans within the town itself. As demand grew for Colombian coffee throughout America, local businesses developed marketing schemes that emphasized specific regions of the world where this type of bean was grown – such as England or Asia – on behalf of their customers. By World War I, Fredericksburg’s coffee industry had become one of the largest in Texas. At its peak, it produced over 1 million pounds of ground coffee per year and exported an estimated $1 million worth of beans abroad. However, with the outbreak of World War II, Fredericksburg’s coffee industry declined rapidly due to rationing policies enacted by Nazi Germany. The town’s population plummeted from around 20,000 prior to war to just 6 hundred residents by 1945. However, because so muchof the town’s infrastructure was destroyed during hostilities (including most of its water main), little impact resulted from this decline; rather than see their economy suffer as a result., many people turned their attention towards creating new businesses based on cafe culture which flourished through into the postwar period. Today, Fredericksburg is a thriving community with many cafespace remaining open all day long providing nearly identical experiences each time you visit – something that cannot be found anywhere else in Texas!

The History of Fredericksburg Coffee House begins with the establishment of the original coffee house, called The Gilded Cage, in 1836. This was a popular spot for local residents to meet and chat before going off to their own business. The coffee house continued to be run by the same family until 1861 when it was sold to J.B. Pettigrew and his son-in-law, John Smeaton. In 1872, Pettigrew Brothers purchased the coffee house from Smeaton and continued its operation until 1907 when it came under ownership of the Daughters ofthe American Revolution (DAR). It remained in DAR hands until 1962 when it was privatized and became part of the Texaco Corporation.
Frederick'sburg is a small town in Weimar County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fredericksburg-Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after General John Buel, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as Commandant of Fort Worth. The town was founded in 1879 by white settlers on land that had been given to them by Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna. A post office called Frederick'sburgh was established in 1881, and remained in operation until 1907. The first store opened in 1886. By 1900, there were nine stores and four grocery stores in the community. A cotton gin and two sawmills were built around 1920. In 1945, during World War II, Frederick'sburg played a significant role as one of the largest Japanese American concentration camps located within Weimar County boundaries (the other being Amarillo). At its peak, it housed more than 2,000 Japanese Americans living within its limits. In 1951 a detachment of the 9thTexas Infantry Regiment (ARMY) was stationed here while training new troops for deployment to Korea; this detachment is now known as "Chrysler" Company 9th Texas Infantry Regiment (ARMY)
