In 1845, Friedrich Wilhelm Fröhlich founded the first coffee house in Fredericksburg. It was called the "Fröhlich Coffee House" and served coffee and pastries from a small shop on Main Street. In 1850, the town's first grocery store opened and Fröhlich continued to serve coffee until his death in 1865. The store closed its doors for good in 1895. The Fredericksburg Coffee House is now a museum located at 525 Neches Ave., Fredericksburg, Texas 78624.
Frederick'sburg is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, about 25 miles southeast of Waco. The population was 1,821 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Fredericksburg Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Dutch colonists in 1836 as a small trading post on the Red River. The name came from General George Washington's favorite place to rest his head before battles, "Fredericksburgh" on the Rappahannock River. In 1840, when Fort Worth and Nacogdoches were established as towns within McLennan County, Frederick'sburg became a part of that new municipality. In 1851, the railroad arrived in Frederick'sburg and began passenger service. That same year saw the opening of an agricultural college here which still operates today under the name Baylor University. The town developed quickly and by 1880 it had a school, Baptist church and hotel. In 1906 it became one of thirty-six municipalities within McLennan County when it was created from parts of Wichita Falls and Abilene counties. During World War II (1939-1945), much activity took place here including manufacturing for munitions production for Nazi Germany; however no Americans were killed or wounded in action here during that conflict. Today there are only a few buildings remaining from earlier days such as this Masonic Temple built in 1903: Frederick'sburg is located just east of Interstate 10 on FM 2787 which leads south to Wichita Falls and north to Abilene
