In Forney, Texas, home of the University of Texas at Austin and one of the most populous cities in the Lone Star State, lies a rich history dating back to 1845. The city was founded by Daniel Boone on November 6, 1845 as Fort Worth. The name "Forney" was given to a small creek that flowed through the town. At first, Forney was a cattle ranch operated by men from Wichita Falls. In 1860, Fort Worth became an independent republic and On July 4th of that year, it officially became part of the United States. By 1865, Fort Worth had become an important railroad center with two railroads running through it-the Western Union Railway Company and Texas Central Railway-and over 100 businesses were located in its downtown area alone. The city's growth continue until World War II when it suffered damage from bombing raids during the war. However, following the war Forney regained much of its former prosperity thanks to both new investments and population growth within its borders fueled by oil production in nearby Shell Refinery and other refineries across North Texas. This population explosion also led to many new buildings being erected such as transportation terminals (such as Terminal Tower), apartment complexes (such as Regency Towers), stadiums (including Amon Carter Stadium), civic buildings (including City Hall) and shopping malls (including South Mall). Today's skyline is dominated by Interstate 20/UCLA Boulevard which forms what once was downtowns side streets while Interstate 35 snakes through central Forney forming what used to be Streetscape District 5 on what used to be Park Row neighborhoods east of I-20/UCLA Boulevard . As mentioned earlier, Forney is home to some of Austin's most prominent universities including UT Austin; Rice University; Baylor University; TCU; SMU; Dallas Baptist University; Sam Houston State University; Lamar Community College and Frio Valley College among others Additionally there are numerous high technology companies headquartered in or around this city including Dell Technologies Inc.; Microsoft Corporation ; Intel Capital ; ATI Technologies Inc.; BMC Software Solutions Pvt Ltd.; Broadcom Limited ; HPE plc., et al.. Despite these successes however recent years have seen mixed fortunes for this city with violence becoming more common and crime rates increasing particularly along I-35 corridor which has been dubbed "The Ring".

The town became ainent railroad center with the construction of the Trinity Railway Express in the mid-19th century.
