Forney, Texas is a town in Bexar County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,817 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bexar County and lies on the San Antonio River. The first settler in Forney was John Maddox who came fromScotland in 1836. In 1840, George Aikens settled here and built a log cabin. The Aikenses were among the earliest white settlers in what later became Bexar County. In 1845, Isaac Asbury established himself here as an agriculturalist and land agent for Midland Bank and Trust Company of Dallas. He also acquired some 640 acres (2 km²) of land along the San Antonio River for $5 per acre (1/4 hectare). This area became known as Asbury Park or Asbury Downs because it was most heavily developed by Mr. Asbury before he sold it to Pecos Oilmen Syndicate in 1912 for $7 million dollars Later that year, when Midland Railroad arrived through Forney with its new line to Brownsville, Mr. Asbury donated his property to the railroad so that it could be used as a station platform on their new line! The current depot was built in 1918 on this site when Forney had a population of only 100 residents! When World War II began there were 1,000 people living downtown but by 1945 there only remained 200 residents due to war-related factors such as loss of jobs and homes being destroyed during fighting overseas. However post-war growth resumed with another 1,500 residents arriving during 1951-1955 when Interstate 10 replaced Railroad tracks leading into downtown which caused more apartment development along I-10 which then led to job growth again! In 1957 Forney had its own electric company which brought much needed electricity gridlock relief while also filling many needs within the community including water treatment plants (later becoming part of City Water),allas high school (now Lamar High School),and numerous small businesses! Today's downtown offers retail shops & restaurants as well as convention center & hotel facilities making it one bustling metropolis!
