In Forest Hill, Texas, coffee has been roasted since the early 1800s. The first farm in Forest Hill was established by John Wesley Price in 1827 and the first store opened in 1830. The early coffee growers were located near Fort Worth, so the beans were brought overland to Fort Worth and then shipped downriver to Dallas. In 1849, a small cabin was built on a hill overlooking Fort Worth and began roasting coffee. By 1870, there were six different roasters operating in Fort Worth. In Dallas, two grocery stores became known for their excellent roast of coffee called The Corner House and Dutch Bros. Coffee Shop. These stores served as outlets for many small farmers who bought their beans direct from the roasters. From these first beginnings until about 1930, much of what we now know about foresthillcoffee sprang from memory or oral history passed down through family members and friends who had worked at orowned local businesses during that time frame. Forest Hill is a small town located in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. It lies at the junction of Loop 610 and Farm to Market 446. The population was 1,711 as of the 2010 census. Forest Hill is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first families to settle in this area were those who came overland from Mexico in 1836. They built their homes on land that now forms the eastern edge of Forest Hill Cemetery. In 1850, an act was passed by the Kenedy County Board of Commissioners authorizing a sale for $4,000 for land at present day Highway 624 and Elm Street. This sale created an opening for settlement near what is now known as Forest Hill Cemetery and School District No. 2 Building #2 (now Community United Methodist Church). The first post office in Forest Hill was established on November 5, 1856, with Wm Cline as its firstpostmaster. The name change came about because most residents at that time went by their surnames rather than their given names which would have been announced at church services or during social events such as weddings or funerals - something that still happens today! In 1865 local farmer James Hogg donated 100 acres (40 hectares) northwest of where the current town sits to be used as a farmstead and forest reserve - much like similar initiatives done recently throughout Bastrop County by citizens groups and private landowners alike! It wasn’t until 1892 when word got out about how great it would be to have a stoplight near town – so another deed was granted to George Pyle for 8 lots located east/northwest of town on FM 620 just south of I-10 between US 183 & FM 375! Today we enjoy excellent access to Interstate 10 through our new city hall complex just west of I-10 across from FM 375! The town was founded in 1878 by James Hogg and his family as a small farming community on the banks of the Brazos River. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location near railroad lines and its access to natural resources such as timber and water. In 1925, Forest Hill became an incorporated municipality under the jurisdiction of Wise County. In 2000, Forest Hill voters approved a proposition to make it an independent city. The vote was met with criticism from some residents who felt that their village would lose its autonomy if it became an autonomous city. On October 15, 2006,Forest Hills voted 3-2 to become an autonomous city with full fledged government rights and power over all aspects of municipal life including budgeting and zoning decisions; however, this decision was later overruled by county officials who argued that autonomy would not lead to better services for residents but would instead create more problems because City Hall does not have authority over public schools which are run by local school districts).
