Onboard HMS Cumberland were Commodore John Davenport(Commandant at San Antonio), Master Mate First Class Richard Trowbridge (Master Mariners Mate Second Class), Ensign William Waddell(Ensign Third Class) & Lieutenants Nathaniel Gregg(Lieutenant Third Class), Ebenezer Smith( Lieutenant FourthClass) & Joseph Hebert( Lieutenant FifthClass). From here they proceeded shoreward via open water current towithin 2 nautical miles OF Brazos River before anchoring just outside modern day Flower Mound today! Although not official reports survive attributing said event directlyto Commodore John Davenport or Lt Commander Ebenezer Smith aboard CSS Alabama/Concorde watchtower subsequent reconnaissance revealed both he & Lieutenants Nathaniel Gregg & Joseph Hebert were aboard Constitution itself at some point during operations……It should be noted that even though most likely all participating sailors failedTo attainofficial historians have ascribed credit primarily either directly or indirectlyertoCommodoreJohnDavenportorLtComdrEbenezerSmithfor Song Sparrowiots participationONBuggy Banksshorewatch….. The Flower Mound Naval Base was a naval base located in Flower Mound, Texas. It was opened in 1907 as the USS Wichita and served as the flagship of the 1st Squadron, 3rd Fleet from 1917-1920. The navy decommissioned the Wichita in 1920 and it was transferred to the Air Force on October 24, 1940. The Air Force reactivated the Wichita on February 11, 1942 as part of Operation Neptune's Spear and deployed it to Australia for airstrikes against Japanese forces. The Wichita served with distinction in World War II and is still stationed at RAF Mildenhall today.
Located in the heart of Texas, Flower Mound is a town that has been around since the 1800s. The town was founded by pioneers who were looking for a place to live and raise their families. Today, Flower Mound is a vibrant community with many businesses and restaurants. The population of Flower Mound has grown over the years, and today it stands at over 10,000 residents. The history of Flower Mound can be traced back to 1835 when Captain James Swayne granted land to Alexander McClain and his family as part of the Iuka Purchase. This land included what is now Flower Mound. McClain named the area after his daughter, Flora (the name may have come from an olive tree). Over time, other settlers arrived in this area, and by 1854 there were more than 10 people living in the town. At first, flowermound was used for agriculture only. However, as time passed and more people moved into this town, they began to develop businesses such as grocery stores and lumberyards. In 1907, construction began on the current courthouse which still stands today. The building was designed by local architect John Bicknell and features Federalist architecture style. The history of Flower Mound also includes some interesting events that took place during its early years including: Captain James Swayne's grant in 1835 which created much of present-day central Flower Mound; 3 weddings held here on October 5th 1865 between Confederate General Cleburne Travis' troops marching through town following their victory at Dallas; "The Battle Hymn" written by Confederate General Houston Butler played here on September 25th 1863 during Battle of Garrison Prairie; "Aida" performed here by Verdi's opera company on April 6th 1880 during Spanish American War;

The town's rich history is still represented through itsmany distinctive buildings and residents - many of whom continue to work hard at maintaining these longstanding traditions. As Central Texas continues to thrive under new leadership, it is likely that we will see even more growth and progress brought about by this vibrant community - thanks in part to its rich history!
The Flower Mound community was founded in 1847 when a group of Mississippian pioneers, most of whom were farmers, erected a log cabin on the banks of the Sabine River. The first post office was established in 1850. By 1851, there were twenty-six settlers living at Flower Mound. In 1860, a sawmill and grist mill were built and operations continued until 1865 when the mill burned down. A grocery store and general store followed in 1872. A school was built in 1875 and remained operational until it closed in 1951. There was also an opera house which opened in 1906 but ceased operations due to financial difficulties. The community experienced some growth during World War II with the construction of airfields nearby; however, these did not lead to significant economic development.
