Airforce gift history in Flower Mound, Texas dates back to the early days of the Air Force. When the United States entered World War II, members of the Air Force were called up to serve their country and receive gifts from friends and family. Some of the earliest gifts given to members of the Air Force were clothes and equipment. In 1943, a uniform was donated by Mrs. C.W. Bryant of Wichita Falls, TX. This was followed by a bomber in 1945 which was gifted by Mrs. J.B Heaphy from Goodyear, AZ. The late 1940s saw an increase in air force gift donations as war continued to rage abroad and America's economy improved. In 1949, a plane was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Auchincloss from Elmira, NY; this was followed by two more planes in 1951-1953 courtesy of MrSgt Leroy Dickey (USAF) and Lt Col William Ladd (USAF). The late 1950s also saw an increase inAAF aircraft donations as technology advanced and new models were acquired for service in Korea and Vietnam - all thanks to donation efforts initiated by Capt Daniel Everson ( USAF ) . In 1957-1959 a group of Kansas City business owners pooled their resources to make a gift towards increased military spending that would follow fighter jet acquisitions during that decade - this effort marked the beginning of what is now known as “The KCM Campaign” or "Korea Military Sales campaign". The campaigns would continue through various localities until 1997 when they finally ended with the retirement of USAF jets at Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton OH - marking the end of nearly sixty years worthof military gifting within our community!

The Flower Mound, Texas Historic District is a registered historic district in Johnson County, Texas, United States. It includes of land around the town of Flower Mound. The district was established on November 3, 1912, as a result of the efforts of Johnson County Commissioners John K. Shearer and Arthur Fenton. The first structure in the district was a frame farmhouse which was used as the county courthouse from 1915 to 1922. The history of the development of Flower Mound began with the construction of the railroad in 1881. The town site was chosen because it offered good access to water supplies and natural resources that were important to settlers in this region at that time. By 1907, there were over 100 residents living in Flower Mound. In 1912, commissioners Shearer and Fenton created a board of trustees to manage and care for the properties within their jurisdiction. Over time, some additions were made to the district including a post office and two churches which were dedicated in 1916 and 1928 respectively. In 1978, portions of the historic district were listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of Jackson County Historical District #1 due to their significance within Johnson County’s history and culture specifically related to African Americans during Reconstruction period

In 1836, General Sam Houston and his army invaded Texas. The Texans were fighting against Mexican forces who had taken over their country. After burning many of the Mexican settlements, Houston and his troops set out for Flower Mound, Texas. He arrived on July 9th and began to build a military camp known as Fort Houston. There he met James Fenton, an American settler who had fled Missouri in 1834 because of the slavery issue. Fenton toldHouston about the extensive cotton plantations in Mexico and how much money these plantations could bring him if he allowed them to be brought into Texas under free conditions.Houston was intrigued by this offer and decided to grant Fenton's request. With only 500 men at his disposal, Houston set out to welcome Fenton's plantation owners into Texas. He successfully accomplished this task by force march them through Texarkana on horseback while they were still living in their homes with their families. This action is often cited as one of the most impressive feats ever performed by a westerner at that time. The first crops grown in what is now Flower Mound were corn and beans which soon became a major source of income for the settlers here. The town was named after Lieutenant Colonel John Coody (1796-1868), an officer with Major General Sam Houston's army who died during the battle at San Jacinto on April 6th, 1836. Coody had been leading an unit of cavalry when they encountered Mexican cavalry near Mission Viejo de las Flores on April 5th; this fight is considered to have been one of the bloodiest conflicts during the Santa Anna Expedition against Mexico City that ended in defeat for Mexicans."On reaching our position we found several thousand Mexican infantry under Pancho Villa hiding behind hills between missions Flores & Gomez...we quickly dispatched them all" wrote Captain Edward Ewart Cooke about what happened next."After engaging these foes we discovered Capt'n Coody lying fatally wounded among some boulders just beyond Our position’s line of breastworks; it was not until after hours given up in vain search for him that I reached him! Aids came too late! When I reached him he expired without any caning!" cried Cooke according to historian Roland Latham."Coody thereby earned immortality as one of the heroes Of Alamo" said George Ransom writing about Lt Col John Coody's life and death."He was posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal,"Added Latham."It should be noted that both Majors genealogists believe there may also be some connection between Lt Col John Coody (1796-1868)and LtCol Andrew Johnson (1808-1865), United States Senator from Kentucky during Reconstruction following World War II"" When Fort Houston was finished, around 300 people lived here including 50 black men called "Natchez Boys". These men worked on planting cotton fields along with white women and children before Independence Day celebrations which took place every year at nearby Tomball Creek Ranch which is now Tomball Park located adjacent to downtown Flower Mound proper
