The first resident of Farmers Branch was James Fenton in 1837. A post office called Farmers Branch was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1830, five men from nearby Wichita Falls founded the Wichita Falls Independent School District which included present-day Farmers Branch. That year, two more men arrived from Oklahoma to help guide the school district's construction. In 1836, farmers Wm Hargrave and John Pemberton donated land for a new courthouse and jail on Main Street near what is now Interstate 20 south of Downtown Dallas. The first court session took place on November 10th of that year under the name "Fayetteville", but soon changed to "Farmers Branch". Over time, other towns within Johnson County cropped up with their own post offices: Haskell (1849), Bowie (1853), McKinney (1859), Decatur (1865), Flower Mound (1868) and Fort Worth (1870). In 1907, voters passed an act creating Farmington Township west of downtown Dallas; the territory was divided between Farmers Branch and Irvingwood shortly thereafter. On December 12th 1898 Commissioners Hargrave & Pemberton filed a Petition to Incorporate as a Village with full powers granted by said Legislature; incorporation resulted on January 16th 1899 at 6 p.M., by virtue of said petition under chs 1-3 & 4-6 of said statutes providing for such organization." On July 15th 1902 Voters approved an amendment to charter amendment #5409 submitted by George Ritchie giving full voting rights to women citizens over 21 years old who had resided continuously within their municipality for six months before applying - this ordinance became effective on October 1st 1902 . Thereafter Farmer's Branch slowly lost its isolated feel as industries started moving into town - annexed by Garland in 1914 and then Mesquite in 1916-. However during World War II local residents formed Resistance Groups which fought against Axis soldiers streaming through town en masse looking for food supplies during Fall 1942 bombings; these groups are still commemorated today with annual events like 'Operation Cowboy' organized around September 14th each year when small groups Raid Army camps throughout central TX

The grantee, David Bexar, named his ranch after himself and his brother, José Bexar. In 1851, General Sam Houston granted a tract of land east of Nacogdoches to James Waco for $5,000. This area became known as Baylor County. In 1854, John Fenton established a farm on what is now FM 727 in Farmers Branch. Fenton was one of the early settlers in this area and he is credited with being one of the first farmers to grow corn on his farmstead. He also raised cattle and hogs. In 1865, Jens Jensen bought Fenton's farm and continued to operate it until 1886 when he sold it to Arent Hays. Hays renamed it Haysland and later changed it back to Farmers Branch after moving from Austin to this area in 1889.
