Farmers Branch, Texas is an agricultural town in Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 9,722 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Tarrant County and the county seat of Farmers Branch. The area that now makes up Farmers Branch was first settled by Scots-Irish settlers in 1836. They named their community after General David Hunter's farmstead near Fredericksburg, Virginia. The town of Farmers Branch was incorporated on November 16, 1886. The region that now makes up Farmers Branch became a focus for settlement following the Mexican-American War (1846–48). As American forces advanced into Mexico, many Texans attempted to flee to their homes in East Texas or West Texas but were turned back by Mexican military forces led by Antonio López de Santa Anna. These Texans scattered throughout what is today Tarrant County made new claims to land which would become the nucleus of present-day Farmers Branch. In 1876, J P Richardson platted what would become Sunday morning market square and built his home there as part of a plan to develop downtown as a commercial center for the area around it. Richardson sponsored a survey for a post office in honor of his father who had served as Justice of Peace for much of this same period—a status he held until his death in 1865. The original post office building still stands and can be visited today; it has been leased out since 1984 to provide housing units nearby on Temple University’s campus. In 1887, Colonel James Meeks organized one hundred men from various parts of Waco under directions from Mayor John Hancey to open a cattle market at Commerce Street and Elm Street adjacent to Trinity Episcopal Church west of Interstate 35W (now US 59/I-35W). This market continued until 1917 when it closed due to World War I conditions; however, evidence suggests that some livestock may have been traded during its brief time on Elm Street . In 1906 legislation enacted by then Governor George Norris called for development within five miles (8 km) of Amarillo via state highway 250D (now US 290), which included Agricultural Boulevard east downianto FM 760 west then north along FM 760 past Richardson's store onto FM 671 before turning south concurrent with current US 287/US 290 northeastward through present day Farmers Branch before turning northwest again concurrent with current US 287/US 290 southeastward through present day Fort Worth . This time it stemmed from improvements made within municipal government at the county level! A new courthouse was built which allowed farmers greater access to court proceedings related to their crops/livestock The late 1800s saw a decrease in agricultural production due primarilyto changes within global markets; however this didn’t stop Farmer Branch residents from starting their own businesses Today there are still many successful farms operating in Farmers Branch – providing quality food products directly unto consumers !
