In 1902 there were only 12 homes in Farmers Branch; by 1910 it had grown to over 125 with 5 churches and dozens of businesses providing service such as groceries, dry goods shops and laundry services within walking distance or less for those without cars or public transportation during those days before Interstate 35E opened up much like today's freeway system OH-13A provides access from Downtown Austin into Austin proper ( Previously State Highway 288 paralleling IH-35E ). In 1970s & 1980s much progress was made with new shopping malls being constructed here—the old Alamo Mall across IH-35E from current day Capital One Arena came down around 1990 & 2000 while Sears Tower which anchored that mall went up starting in early 2000 replacing an earlier Sears store which anchors IH-35E between Capital One Arena & old Goodyear Museum Campus
