Euless, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that is located on the banks of the Trinity River. The population was 9,919 at the 2000 census and 12,478 at the 2010 census. Euless is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Euless" comes from early Spanish settlers who named it San Miguel de Eula (or simply Eula). At first, they hunted wild game here and built their crude homes usingedar logs which they brought downriver from what is now Mexico City. In 1836, Dutch colonists arrived in present-day Euless and soon after began to build log cabins on land now occupied by Main Street. By 1839, there were five settlements in operation around what is now downtown: Eula, First Colony (later renamed Independence), Second Colony (now parts of Fort Worth), Third Colony (later renamed McKinney), and Fourth Colony (now Irving also part of Dallas–Fort Worth). In 1851, two groups of Texans decided to move westward into new territory acquired from Mexico following its Mexican War victory over General Santa Anna's forces – one group led by John Fenton went north along Buffalo Bayou to Cleburne County while another led by James Bowie crossed Red River to Jack County. Upon reaching civilization they built cotton plantations near present day Austin before moving back upstream into Indian Territory where they founded Wichita Falls in 1854; this settlement served as both capital for Indian Territory and as a center for trade with Native Americans living beyond the Great Lakes region. In 1857 cattle drives started up the Trinity River making way for railroad construction through what are now Arlington Heights and Irvington; railroads made increasing demand for goods shipped eastwards across open country but also contributed to rural development with sawmills becoming a popular feature in many towns along river routes such as Eulas and McKinney until about World War II when these mills closed because of dwindling resources or changes in market trends associated with war production techniques like aircraft manufacturing or other heavy engineering projects requiring large investments outside traditional industrial areas such as foundries or machine shops
