In the early 1900s, Ennis was a small town located in west Texas. Its residents were mostly farmers and ranchers. The only industry that thrived in the town was agriculture. However, during World War I, the Air Force stationed two planes at Ennis Municipal Airport. This allowed for combat training of local pilots. As a result, many residents donated items from their homes to the Air Force on Christmas Eve of 1917. Ennis, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. As of 2010, the population was 159,569 according to the Census Bureau. The city was founded on October 15, 1873 by John Ennis as a cattle market town about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Dallas. The name "Ennis" came from an Apache chief named Naco who had killed a white man there in 1872. The first post office in Ennis was established on October 15, 1873, and became open on November 1st. In 1886, Ennis incorporated as a town under the name "Dallas." On December 3rd of that year, Dallas annexing parts of what is now Ennis Township to form its own municipality. In 1907, Dallas annexing more parts of what is now Ennis Township to form its own municipality still called "Dallas." In 1960, both cities were combined into one municipality with the same name under then Governor Greg Abbott; however this merger did not take place until 1973 when they were again separated due to their different acronyms: DFW – Dallas/Ft Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area TX – Texarkana County TX – Aransas County TX – Ellis County TX - Plano COLLINS COUNTY - Coryell County

The history of this tradition began in the early days of the USAF when squadron commanders would exchange Christmas gifts with their unit's families. Since then, the program has evolved into a unique and cherished tradition within the USAF. The Deployed Gift History Program was first conceived as a way to show appreciation for all that our service members do for us during our military expeditions around the world. By exchanging gift baskets or boxes filled with special treats and items from home, we are able to create an emotional connection between Service Members and their loved ones back home. Since its inception, DGF has given servicemen and women from across the globe an opportunity to diplomacy through gifting. This year alone, there have been over 150 different exchanges completed by USAF personnel worldwide. Each individual interaction gives some serviceman or woman something they may not have otherwise had access to while on deployment – such as new clothes, toys or books! In addition, these interactions help promote morale among Service Members who are deployed overseas and can provide much-needed support during difficult times. We at The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History believe that it is important for our servicemen and women who are deployed abroad to have this unique gift history so they can feel appreciated both while on deployment and afterwards when they come back home. The USAF deployed gift history in 1957. The USAF had been deploying gift history since 1956 when it started deploying the Dog Tags and Badge Set. The Dog Tags and BadgeSet were a set of Army/Navy tags that held the rank, unit, and date of service information for an individual.
Ennis, Texas is a town in Harrison County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,652 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1879 by families of English and Scottish descent who had fled to the area during the American Civil War. Ennis is located on the banks of the Trinity River. The town was named after James Ennis, an early settler and treasurer of Harrison County. In 1879, James Ennis donated land in what is now Ennis to establish a school district and build a courthouse. The first building was dedicated in 1880; it served as the county seat for Harrison County until 1901 when Cedar Creek Courthouse became operational. The town's first mayor was Wm Hopley. In 1912, Ennis defeated a challenge from Lubbock to become the capital of Ellis County because Lubbock refused to allow its city limits to touch either side of the Trinity River. In 1924, due to flooding caused by Hurricane Amos, Ennis developed a dam that would provide irrigation water for local farmers for over fifty years until it went out of service in 2000. The community has since rebuilt and resumed its role as a residential and commercial center with strong ties to agriculture and ranching industries that continue today
Ennis, Texas was founded in 1836 by John F. Ennis and his family. The town was named after the Irish village of Enniscorthy on the Trinity River. It grew quickly due to its location at the junction of two important trails, one leading to Fort Worth and the other to San Antonio. In 1839, Ennis became a county seat and prospered because of its location. The population reached 100,000 by 1850. However, oil discoveries in nearby Gilroy led to an economic decline for Ennis, which lost its status as a center of production until it regained its importance as a bedroom community during the 1960s and 1970s.
