The USS Constitution was the first U.S. Navy ship to be commissioned after the end of the American Revolution in 1783. The ship was built at York Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was launched on October 12, 1784. The Constitution served as a flagship of Commodore John Rodgers during the American War of Independence and participated in several engagements including the Battle of Bunker Hill. After the war, she served as a whaling ship until she was decommissioned in 1846. In 1851, she became a steamboat and played an important role in bringing water to San Antonio, Texas during their time of drought. She later served as a hulk in San Diego before being scrapped in 1955.
El Paso, Texas is a city in the US state of Texas. The population was 741,055 as of 2010. It is the most populous city in the Rio Grande Valley and one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. El Paso is also home to Border Patrol's Station 6 miles (10 km) from the Mexican border. The first European settlement in what is now El Paso County was by Franciscans on October 25, 1779, when Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded just north of what is now downtown El Paso. The area that would become El Paso County was included within Pueblo De Mexico territory until 1821 when it became part of Mexican Alta California under Governor Manuel Micheltorena. In 1846, during the American Civil War, General Antonio López Zapata led a cavalry brigade against American forces at Palo Alto battlefield near present-day downtown El Paso while seeking refuge from Mexican troops loyal to Mexico City. On November 11th 1846 General José Joaquín Balboa surrendered Tucson to US forces after Battle of Alamogordo and today's University Heights neighborhood forms part of that battle ground. In 1912, due to railroad construction across Hudspeth Creek between Pecos and Ciudad Juárez riverside townships along modern day Interstate 10 east of Tucson, settlers began moving into present-day El Paso from all over Texas and northern Mexico for jobs in new industrial areas such as mining and oil production; many settled near old Comanche Trail cattle trails running through central TX into New Mexico sheep country northwestward (the trail has since been abandoned). By 1920 only about 1/5 mile (0.8 km) north of Old Town – then called "El Paso" – lay Webb Air Force Base which served as an important airfield for Army aviation during World War II; later eastern portions were annexed by Phoenixville Township form Lycoming County PA in 1951 according to county records but are still considered part ofElsasota Township according to current map analysis which includes parts overlapping both sections
