El Campo is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas and seat of San Antonio County. The population was 7,191 at the 2010 census. Coffee beans were first grown in El Campo in 1872 by José de la Peña and José Ríos, two Spanish missionaries working among the Apache people. The coffee beans were brought to El Campo by wagon train from Chihuahua, Mexico in 1875. In 1886, George Hearn began importing coffee from Africa and started selling it at his store on Market Street in El Campo. In 1912, Samuel Post became the owner of Post & Hennepin Coffee Co., which became one of the largest coffee companies in Texas until its dissolution in 1975. In 1933, Harry Jaffe founded Jaffe's Coffee Co., which became one of the biggest coffee companies intx United States until its dissolution in 1990. In 1984, Tim Hortons opened their first restaurant northwest of downtown San Antonio at 411 W Main St.. They continue to operate that location today with variations like Happy Hours (3-6 p.m.), Delivery (around 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), and Baked Goods (10 a.m.-5 p.m.).

The town was founded by English settlers in 1881 and named for José Antonio El Campo y López, captain of artillery for Spain during the Mexican-American War. A post office opened in 1888 and continued serving until 1951. In 1915, construction began on El Campo High School, which opened its doors to students in 1917. It was the first high school in McLennan County and remains one of the local schools' most popular campuses. Today, many residents work outside of town or commute to other nearby cities for their jobs; however, there are still a number of businesses located within walking distance of each resident's home. The downtown district is also home to a few restaurants and nightlife options as well as several stores that cater to the needs of locals and visitors alike.

El Campo is a small town located in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. The name "El Campo" may be derived from the Chichimeca word "el campo", meaning "the field". The town was founded in 1879 by ranchers who came to ranch near the present-day town of El Campo. What are now downtown El Campo and most of the surrounding countryside were first settled by Mexicans who had come overland from Zacatecas as part of what is now Mexico City. After Mexican independence, many people returned home to rejoin their families and townsfolk in Zacatecas Province. When General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna assumed power in 1846, he ordered all citizens of Zacatecas Province to leave for their own safety. Some of these settlers abandoned their homes and started new lives on ranches east of San Antonio, including those at Rancho Durango which later became El Campo. In 1879, a group of farmers arrived from Castro County with an idea to found a village near them because they could not find anyone willing to buy land in what is now Webb County. They named their new settlement after José María Morelos y Pavón (1796-1875), general commandant general ofMexico's army during its War for Independence against Spain two years earlier. The first post office was established at El Campo on July 4, 1880; it operated until 1889 when it moved to nearby Mission Viejo due to lack of space in Ranchos Durango and San Antonio. El Campo grew quickly due to its location within easy reach both by horseback riders travelling between San Antonio and Zacatecas Province as well as by wagon trains making the trip up the Rio Grande Valley each way during winter months when transport was unavailable over land or via water crossings. By 1893 there were already more than 100 residents living in ElCampoo; this number increased steadily until 1920 when World War I interrupted growth again. In 1927 voters registered 513 residents; this number rose each year until 1948 when it reached 693 residents but dropped below 500 before growing slowly back up until reaching 1,890 at the 2010 census count). There have been several changes throughout history affecting how things have changed around here: one being that violence has become much less common since 1990 thanks largely to community policing programs started by then Mayor Manuel Gomez Perez following a spate of shootings in central El CampO resulting from drugs trafficking activity There are currently no plans underway for any major change anytime soon
