The Texas National Guard has a long and proud history in Edinburg. The Guard was organized on July 1, 1907 as the 2nd Battalion, Texas Rangers. The battalion served in World War I and World War II before being disbanded on November 15, 1946. In 1951, the Guard was reformed as the 3rd Battalion, Texas Rangers and served in the Korean War. After the war ended, the battalion remained inactive for several years until it was reactivated on December 1, 1966 as part of Governor Connally's state guard program. The battalion served until 1992 when it was disbanded again. In 1993, the Guard re-formed as part of Governor George W. Bush's state guard program and served through his second term in 1999-2001 before being renamed to 4th Battalion Texas Rangers on January 8, 2003 under then Lieutenant Colonel Royce Lamberton Jr.'s command after he took over command from Lieutenant Colonel Artis Gilmore Jr.. Under Lamberton's leadership both battalions have seen continuous growth with each new unit formed to support confuse military operations across multiple states by providing a combined force multiplier for deployments or homeland defense purposes (e.g., Operation Noble Eagle). On October 10th of that year LtCol Lamberton announced that he would be retiring effective January 1st 2006 due to poor health but will remain with Unit until his final days. He leaves behind a legacy of service excellence which continues today with an organization which is one of its most decorated units having numerous awards & commendations including Meritorious Unit Citation (MUC) & Presidential Unit Citation (PUC). As an example within military matters LtCol Lamberton is also nationally respected for authoring "A Guide To State Guards" which became widely used by Guardsmen throughout many states serving under his command becoming something of a textbook within their field manuals allowing them greater knowledge/ability while deployed without fear of losing their equipment or status quo while they are away from homebase maintaining order while performing their missions

Edinburg is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. The city is named after General Sam Houston and his wife, Eliza Brooke Houston. The first European to visit what is now Edinburg was Father José de Jesús Arana on November 16, 1736. He established a Mission San Fernando Rey de España (New Spain) mission chapel and smallpox-free area in what is today downtown Edinburg. In 1836, Mexican dictator Vicente Guerrero extended an invitation to American settlers to move into the southern portion of Tyler County as part of the Texas Annexation Agreement which granted Mexico full ownership of all US possessions east of the Rio Grande River. The first group of Americans arrived on December 1st and named their new town "Edinburg". A post office called "Edinburgh" was established in 1849; it changed its name to "Edinburg" in 1892. People in Edinburg started emigrating during the late 1800s for various reasons including finding land west of Austin and opportunities for farming following annexation by Texas from Mexico. By 1900 there were over 1,000 people living in Edinburgh with manufacturing being one of the most important economic sectors early on in its growth. In 1902 construction began on what would become Baylor University's main campus east of downtown Edinburg through donation from philanthropist Wm Hargrave McAllister and other donations over time. Approximately 3/4ths of all built resources at Baylor came from outside sources such as private gifts (eighty percent) or government loans (thirty percent). Today Baylor University operates one thousand acres (fifty hectares) across six campuses located within Downtown Edinburgh proper with additional facilities open unto acreage expansion adjacent to I-30 exit 529 southward; these campuses are: Main Campus - situat edifice opened circa 1908 extending southeast 2 blocks northward along Elm Street until reaching McLennan Avenue; West Campus - situat edifice opened circa 1974 extending northwest 8 blocks northeast along Fenton Road until reaching Interstate 30; South Campus - situat edifice opened circa 1998 extending southwest 9 blocks southeast along Hutchins Boulevard until reach ing Interstate 35W
In 1903, the National Guard was established as a Federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Justice. The first unit to be activated was Company C of the 1st New York State National Guards, who were called to duty at the request of Mayor John F. Kennedy on November 8th, 1963. Since its inception, the National Guard has played an important role in American history and tradition. Many events and moments have been associated with the National Guard including: -The first constitutional amendment (the United States Constitution) was ratified by a vote of the New York City National Guardsmen on September 26th, 1787. -The Atlantic Charter – which determined U.S.-Japan relations - was signed by representatives from New York City's 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment (National Guard), Commander George Washington at Fort Totten on December 12th, 1941. -Presidential Proclamation No. 136 – ordering all units of Federal Law Enforcement Agencies to standby for martial law in case of a national emergency - was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on October 20th, 1938.

Edinburg is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 54,839 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. The city was founded in 1881 by J.P. Morgan and others as an agricultural center on the banks of the Brazos River. After cotton became more substituted for cornmeal in cooking and eating, Edinburg began to prosper as a manufacturing center for products such as bicycles and chemicals. In 1915, General Motors moved its plant from Flint to Edinburg - making it one of first American companies to set up shop in Mexico City after World War I. Other large employers during this time include Boeing Company (1948), Texaco (1968), Motorola (1975), and Hewlett-Packard (1981). The current name of Edinburg was given to it by General Howard Pyle when he negotiated the purchase of land from the Kiowa people east of town in 1886. Upon incorporation as a city, Edinburg developed into one of Texas' most powerful commercial cities - with a population that reached 100,000 by 1920 despite being small relative to other major metropolitan areas in Texas at that time. The city's success during this period led it to become home to some of America's leading industrialists and entrepreneurs - including Hays Chemical Co., Maytag Manufacturing Company, American Telephone & Telegraph Company, Sears Roebuck & Co., Dow Corning Glass Works, Union Carbide Corporation, Ford Motor Company and Abbott Laboratories among others - helping makeEdinburg one of America's preeminent industrial cities well into the 21st century.
