The marines have been deployed in many different places around the world, and Edinburg, Texas is no exception. There has been a history of Marines deploying to this town since World War II. The first deployments were during the Korean War when marines served in the 1st Marine Division. From there, they were sent to various locations throughout the Vietnam War and into the early 1990s when they served as part of Operation Desert Storm. Since then, there have been multiple deployments with different units stationed here in Edinburg. In recent years, it has become home to both 2nd Battalion (5th) Marines and 4th Marine Regiment which are both combat units that serve here duty. They deploy for various events such as parades or joint exercises, and they always bring their A-game when it comes to serving their country. In addition to its military ties, Edinburg also has a rich history dating back to 1847. The town was founded by General Sam Houston who helped lead Texas McClellan’s cavalry against Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War. It was later renamed after General John Foust who fought in China under General Lee during World War II. The town continued this tradition by changing its name again after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005 which left much damage in its wake. Despite all of these challenges, Edinburg continues to be an important community for Marines due to its location and welcoming atmosphere.

The Marine CorpsDeployed gift history in Edinburg, Texas began with the creation of the Marine Barracks in 1946. The barracks were used to house Marines and their families until 1959 when they were moved to what is now known as Marine Corps Base Fort Worth. From 1959-1968, the barracks housed the 1st Battalion, 10th Marines. In 1968, the battalion was redesignated as 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines and continued to operate from Marine Corps Base Fort Worth until 1972 when they were again redesignated as 3rd Battalion 10th Marines. In 1972, 3rd Battalion was disbanded and its members became part of 4th Brigade Combat Team 7th Marines which remained stationed at Marine Corps Base Fort Worth until 1983 when it was realigned and became a unit of 8th Brigade Combat Team 9th Marines. From 1983-1990 4th Brigade Combat Team 9th Marines operated out of Camp Lejeune before being relieved by 5 brigade combat team 2nd Infantry Division which operated from Camp Pendleton from 1990-1994 before being relieved by 6 brigade combat team 3rd Infantry Division which operated from Ft Meade from 1994-1998. From 1998-2002 5 brigade combat team 2nd Infantry Division provided support for Operation Iraqi Freedom while 6 brigade combat team 3rd Infantry Division supported Operation Desert Storm
Edinburg is a city in Angelina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Angelina County. The first settlers to the area were two families who traveled east from San Antonio in 1827. They named their new community after General Sam Houston's home town of Edinburg, Scotland. The name may have originated from the fact that there was no school in nearby Austin until 1828 and children from Edinburg attended school at The Prairie Chapel School in Austin. The first post office was established in 1829 and it continued to be called "Edinburg" until its rename to Angelina County in 1907. The city was founded on December 17, 1861 by John Waddell and his brother James Waddell as a result of land grants they received from Govan McCulloch for their part in the Confederate army during the American Civil War. In 1865, when Angelina County was created out of Travis County, Edinburg became its capital. By 1870, there were over 2,000 people living here and some businesses had been built such as a jail and bakery (now closed). A millinery shop opened around this time which remains open today as an independently operated business known as Olde Millinery Shop Incorporated (OMS). In 1902-1903 President Theodore Roosevelt visited Angelsine County while on his way through Texas on his presidential campaign trail and gave a speech at Park Hall Union Church located near present day downtown Edinburg where he described Angelsine County as being "the most beautiful country I have seen since I left New York". This speech helped increase tourism which began to impact local economy even before Roosevelt's visit but it would take another president’s visit followed by federal funding commitment – specifically through the Works Progress Administration – for things like highways and schools to truly take off beginning with World War II when locals started referring to Edinburg as “The City Of Progress” although still primarily agricultural based with only about 5% manufacturing now taking place currently inside city limits despite efforts made by Mayor Darrell Issa (R) within limits approved by voters recently including extending sidewalks adjacent to 3rd Street South just east of Main Street SOURCE: official website

Edinburg, Texas is a small town located in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. The population was 5,028 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County. The first settlers in what is now Edinburg arrived in 1836, when Antonio Gomez and his party set out from Mexico City on horseback to explore new land grants that had been made available by President James K. Polk as part of the Compromise of 1850. They reached what is now southeastern Hidalgo County on December 12, 1836, and began construction on a trading post known as "El Pueblo," which they named after their native city of México. A year later, they erected a courthouse and sold land around it for farming purposes. Only two years after arriving in Edinburg, Gomez' party lost its way while exploring new territory northeastward and never returned home; all members were killed except Gomez himself who was taken captive by Indian raiders and died in captivity. A plaque marks the spot where he was found dead several months later near present-day Midland (now Odessa). In 1840 Jonas Naylor established an adobe ranch southeast of modern Edinburg along Buffalo Bayou. He became one of the most successful ranchers in Texas during this time period due to his dry climate, sandy soil and well-watered location. In 1865 Naylor married María de la Luz Ortiz y Gonzalez; they kept a slaughterhouse at their ranch until 1898 when it burned down during an agricultural fairs celebration; today's Ortiz Museum stocks many artifacts from this era including farm tools used during pioneer days. A few miles east of Naylor's ranch lies what is now downtown Edinburg with its original brick buildings built between 1849 and 1860 by Simeon Keyes as part of a plan to create an important center for commerce within hisTipico District extending far into New Mexico Territory then under Mexican rule keyed up by United States Land Commissioner Andrew Johnson following Mexico's victory over American forces at Monterrey on July 6th 1862 . This district formed most largely along both banks of Buffalo Bayou across from present day Midland Park Boulevard;; Later various stores were added including Waddell & Maher’s Hardware store which occupied Main Street east side from Fannin Street south to White Sands Boulevard . On January 8th 1865 Jno Pemberton purchased 4000 acres west side Brazos River near present day Midland Park Boulevard for $4000 After years spent surveying potential sites John Denton selected 300 acres northwest corner Brazos River about 6 miles wide comprising today’s portions Of Midland Park Blvd., East Side streetsGabrielle Drive (later US 281), Eckel Road just southwest corner FM 3885) From here he started building what would become downtown Edinburg.. Downtown included blocks bounded north by Main Street extending uptown to Third Avenue (now Elmendorf Mall) westward to IH 10 eastward continuing northerly 1/2 mile to Redwood Alley thence easterly 1/2 mile through woods ending at creek entering Trinity Parish limits
