The town is located on U.S. Route 281 about 10 miles (16 kilometers) east of Austin and 22 miles (35 kilometers) west of Amarillo. It is bordered by Hudspeth County to the north and east, Canadian River Valley to the south and west, and Wheeler County to the northwest. In 1994, student activists from nearby Austin occupied a church in what became known as "the takeover." In early 2015, police began investigating possible ties between anti-government protesters who had taken up residence in several different churches throughout Hudspeth County and local militia groups which had been called into action against federal agents conducting an investigation into illegal firearms sales within the county limits

The city charter was amended on November 15th, 1937 to allow for annexation by neighboring townships.On September 17th, 1984, the City Council passed an ordinance authorizing annexation by McLennan County which was ratified by voters on October 10th.The City of EaglePass annexed McLennan County on January 1st 1986 and changed its name to Eagle Pass Municipal District. On December 15th 1987 a fire destroyed most of downtown Eaglepass leaving only small parts remaining standing today
