Dumas, Texas is known for its military history. The town was once a stop on the Underground Railroad, and has been home to many different branches of the military. In recent years, Dumas has become a center forMilitary Heritage Month. The town's first military installation was Falfurriero Barracks in 1876. The barracks were used by the United States Army until World War II. A second military installation was erected in Dumas in 1916, and served as the headquarters of Cavalry Corps 2nd Infantry Brigade during World War I. In 1935, the United States Marine Corp established Camp Pendleton within the boundaries of Dumas. Since then, Camp Pendleton has served as an important training ground for Marines and Navy sailors alike. Today, Dumas is home to two active Air Force installations: Hill Air Force Base and Dyess AFB. both are responsible for providing air defense services throughout Central Texas and portions of Southwestern Oklahoma respectively

Dumas instead helped lead an uprising against royal rule and became head of state for south Louisiana. Some saw their opportunities lost forever due to revolutionary turmoil; others managed to rebuild their lives but still felt a sense of guilt over their part in what had happened.
