The first settler in Dumas was David Cline in 1836. The town was founded on a ranch that belonged to J.B. Hogg and his family. In 1858, the townsite was donated by J.M. Cummings to John Denton for $5 per acre In 1886, Charles Goodnight opened a general store and post office in Dumas which served as the community's center until it burned down in 1907 In 1933, the only school in Dumas closed due to financial difficulties; however, after being reopened by graziers under new management, Dumas High School reopened full time in 1951 Dumas has a long history of agricultural production including livestock farming and cotton ginning; however now most of its industries are within service or technology sectors In recent years many businesses have relocated from DumAS including Applebees (1996), IHOP (2000), FedEx (2002), PGA Tours (2008) and Shell Oil Refineries (2009).

The coffee beans were ground into a drink called kahlua, which was used to help Ini-Gitonga, the god of agriculture, achieve his necessary productivity. Kahlua was also used as an Amulet of Protection and as part of religious ceremonies. The first recorded mention of maga coffee is from 12th century Ethiopia. It is believed that Ethiopian traders brought the bean to Abyssinia where it was mixed with other plants and spices in order to create a new type of coffee known as Tembela or Majerlem. This mixture became popular in Kingdom of Shewa where it enjoyed great popularity until the 15th century when Ottoman Turks took over Abyssinia and began using maga coffee for their own Coffee House policy. After becoming Ottoman Turks, they began marketing maga coffee throughout Anatolia (modern Turkey) instead of only within Shewa kingdom. In 1828, Dutch traders traveled through Africa and reached Addis Ababa where they discovered two different types of coffee – one being grown by local farmers while the other being bought from Arab merchants in Istanbul. Dutch traders began importing these two types of beans back to Europe and started calling this type "Dutch Coffee." The Dutch companies also started exporting this type of coffee around the world starting with Amsterdam in 1624 A.D.. By 1795 A.D., all European countries had some form or form of maga coffee on their shelves due to its increasing popularity among colonists living near Java Sea coast during Colonial Period (1619-1804). French colonists also started consuming this type of tea soon after its discovery by them in 1793 A D.. As per historian Edwin Lathamulation III, "the importation into America during this period must have been considerable because Phillippe Chassepot found twenty pounds weight pure roasted Ethiopian roasts at Philadelphia about 1793" With time, many different coffees were introduced including Sumatra’s Terebinth beans which became very popular due to their unique flavor profile; African Robusta Beans from modern day Rwanda; Guatemalan Yirgacheffe Bean which provides a fruity taste; Indonesian Rupiah Coffee which is considered medium roast style; Venezuelan Moka Negro beans -all now considered substandard quality products because OFA grading system changed in 2006 Maga Coffee Roasters operates under three main brands: Ethiopia Bred/Nourished/Organically Grown/Unroasted/, Koffee Klatch/Ethiopian blends/, El Jefe/Mexican Blends/. Dumas is a town in Texas, United States. It was founded by the French in 1827 and became part of the United States in 1845. The town name is derived from the Latin word for "city" (dumus), which was given to it by General Antonio Córdoba on his trip through Texas during the Mexican-American War. Dumas has a population of about 12,000 people as of 2019. The first white settlers in what is now Dumas County were Pierre Trudeau and his family who arrived in 1799. They named their ranch after José de Jesus Colón, captain of the Santa Anna Expedition that won Mexico its independence from Spain. The original settler families included: Chapin, Ladd, Richardson & Co., Webber & Whitehead, Hogg & Birdseye, etc.. In 1827 Jean Baptiste Bissonnette founded a fur trade post at present day Dumas Creek with help from Canadian traders Francois-René Lemaire and Nicolas-Jacques De Lesseps. On October 15th that year Bissonnette erected a small wooden cabin near what is now Dumas High School complex on the present site of Main Street while he and fellow trader Alexandre Picard traded goods with trading posts located along both sides of Brazos River at Key West and San Felipe de Guadalupe Mission among others including one established by an Englishman named Appleby just north of Highway 7 near Milford Haven Ranch before it was abandoned due to lack of interest over time In 1830 Alexis de Robespierre purchased land east of Dumas Creek from investor John Kirby for $2,500 having heard about Kirby's intentions to establish a plantation there following his purchase from Comanche chief Quanah Parker regarding lands westward claimed by both parties stretching all the way down into Mexico City known then as Nacogdoches or upper Los Angeles California area today as Chihuahua state within Mexican territory under Spanish jurisdiction including parts also lying within today's Williamson county south central Texas called San Jacinto county within Mexican territory prior to its cession to America via Treaty #8 dated November 10th 1836 between USA and Mexico whereby certain objects located northwest corner or sector hereinof situated about nine miles (15 kilometers)northwest latitude line Pedro Gomez Rancho grantee originally patented March 2nd 1800 lots measuring three hundred feet wide x seventy feet deep x thirty feet high red sandstone laid down without mortar this particular tract bounded on W side by right Fork Jameson creek thence easterly trending along said creek until branching just above where it enters said creek thence you ascend said fork stream making your course WNW taking said creek You reach US lines December 25th 1840 The first school in what is now Dumas County was built in 1799 under instruction from Father Jacques Marquette when France gained independence from Spain. A second school opened in 1802 but closed because there was not enough space for students inside the walls of Fort Buenavista d’Espelette where it sat until1808 when another fortification was erected nearby which provided shelter for troops garrisoning around Veracruz during Anglo-French War resulting in Mexico becoming part of America A post office operated at Dumas Creek from December 1st 1840 until July 21st 1861 when it moved to Beaumont due to growing competition from San Antonio On May 14th 1865 two days after Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House leaving behind more than 60 Yankee soldiers dead including General Ulysses S Grant headquartered at Gum Springs Arsenal northeast Austin TX renamed Fort Worth soon thereafter American troops marched into town leading Women’s Auxiliary Corps Captain Hilda Jorgenson marching with them preceded by bugler Samuel Freeman playing “Peralta” music while black women made baskets filled with flour doughnuts wrapped up like flags then placed them on her chest outside her tent while she distributed these items almsgiving being described as one “the most beautiful sight I ever saw” thy Returned home safely January 9TH 1865 cannons salute you throughout this city once again my Dear Houston wife Annie Post Footnote note 5 referring back here gave me great pleasure years ago
Dumas was founded by Captain James Hogg in 1836. The town became a pastorate of the Catholic church in 1848, and then went through several name changes before its current name was chosen in 1889. In 1907, Dumas adopted a fire code that is still in force today.
