Dumas, Texas is a small town located in the Hudspeth County area of central Texas. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Dumas is known for its programmable lighting, which can be controlled through a Smartphone app. The first settler in Dumas was James Hance who arrived in 1836. Hance's land included what are now the towns of Dumas and Georgetown. In 1839, David Neely bought 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of present day Dumas from Hance for $10 per acre. Neely named his new land "Dumas" after General James Buford's home state of Georgia where he had been born and raised before retiring toTexas in 1851 as a politician and judge on the bench at age 70 years old. Dumas began to flourish as a farming community with tobacco crops and cattle raising becoming major industries during the early 19th century when transportation became available to reach markets farther away than Dallas or Houston could provide. A post office was established at DumAS on May 12, 1853, and remained operational until it was discontinued on July 9, 1907; the date corresponds to today's date of December 15th anniversary of opening of mail service between Austin and Dallas via railroads). The first school in DumAS were two houses built by builder John Gorman around 1855-56 When Gorman died suddenly young children were left houseless so an academy was set up by teacher Mrs Lois Smedley across street from First Methodist Church (now Baylor University Baptist School). In 1860 Mr JB White organized a bandanna badge society which met every other Saturday morning at Old Hickory Tavern near center square; this society later became known as “The White Raiders” & still meets each month at that location! On November 16 1865 six citizens from Cherokee Nation Indian Reservation under Chief Will Rogers came into town for lunch & traded goods they had collected along their way thru Oklahoma Territory including rifle barrels & saddles for clothing Henry Ford brought overland from Michigan about 4 days earlier! His visit has been chronicled by author Ray Bradbury who wrote: “In those days people made more money getting materials out West than they ever did coming back East” It wasn't until 1896 when Jester Manufacturing Co., founded by Sam Walton started making electronic components here that DumAS truly blossomed as an electronics manufacturing center – starting as just three employees working out of one small room upstairs in Jester’s original plant building! From there we grew rapidly into one of America’s leading electronic producers – responsible for products such as TVs, radios, digital audio players etc… At our peak we employed 1,500 workers here uncompensated but our success story reflects not simply our industry prowess but also how American businesses have always worked together to create sustainable growth right here in Texas! Today we continue that proud tradition with 350 employees working hard inside and outside our company headquarters downtown – all contributing their skills to help make sure we keep providing excellent customer service statewide! Dumas is a small town in Angelina County, Texas, United States. The population was 805 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Ft Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Dumas was Jedediah Smith in 1827. In 1840, David Ladd bought land from the Chisholm's and founded what became Dumas Village. By 1850, there were three stores and one school in Dumas Township. A post office was established in 1851, and by 1865, there were eleven businesses in Dumas village including a mercantile store, two blacksmiths' shops, and a hotel. In 1876-77, due to gold discoveries at Fort Worth (now Dallas), many people moved to Angelina County for agricultural opportunities; some of these new settlers founded Dripping Springs (later renamed Angelina) after their arrival there on November 12th of that year. The settlement near present-day Dumas had only six residents when it began to grow rapidly during the 1880s with an influx of miners seeking rich strikes on nearby Washita Hill Lead Mines; by 1889 it had twenty-seven residents and four churches. Dumas prospered as an agricultural center until World War II when its cotton production dwindled because of advances made by other countries in synthetic fiber production; however some industries still have presence today such as cattle ranching through retail sales or feedlots for pigs and chickens. After the war DumAS experienced rapid growth with newcomers moving into housing developments such as Willow Oaks Park which still stands today as one of the most upscale villages located within walking distance of downtown Tyler/Ft Worth; this development also spawned several smaller subdivisions like Payne Farms subdivision which has since been replaced by newer housing developments such as Prairie View Hills & Highland Park
