At that time, it was only a small patrol boat stationed at the mouth of the Brazos River. The Coast Guard Station Dumas were relocated to their current location on September 17, 1912. Dumas, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas, about 25 miles east of Amarillo and the county seat for Hudspeth County. The population was 2,689 at the 2010 census. Dumas is part of the Amarillo-Edwardsburg Metropolitan Statistical Area.The first white person to settle in what is now Dumas County was James Ewing who came from Kentucky in 1827. In 1881, Jervis Griggs bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land that included present day Dumas and developed it into a coal mining community which became known as "Griggsville". The community was destroyed by a fire that burned on December 13, 1886 and left more than 100 people dead. Dumas began to grow rapidly after World War II when industries such as paper manufacturing and auto parts production moved into the area. Today, Dumas is home to several businesses including Waco Paper Company Inc., H&R Block Inc., Midland Energy Corporation and Booking Holdings LLC., all of which are major employers with over 1,000 employees each. The town also has two high school districts - Hudspeth County High School District #1 and Edwardsburg Independent School District #2 - both of which offer programs supplying students with educational opportunities in various areas including music education, welding technology training and agricultural engineering among others.

The Coast Guard functioned as a auxiliary service to the military and it wasn’t until 1907 that a regular coast guard was created. Dumas is a small town in Llano County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Dumas was founded by Spanish colonists in 1836 as San Antonio de Padua. The first post office in Dumas was established on April 12, 1837, and was known as Santa Anna. The name changed to Dumasa on July 15 of that year. On October 16, 1839, the first school in Dumas opened with twenty students under the direction of Mrs. Ayerstedt. In 1840–1841 a Methodist church was built and services were held there until it burned down in 1886. In 1847–1848 an sawmill and gristmill were erected near present day Interstate 35 and US 281 at the junction of Elm Lane and Old Hwy 183; these mills continued operation until they were destroyed by fire in 1951. Dumasa had two hotels: The Pioneer House (now called The Pilot Inn) from 1850 to 1860, then The Glenwood Hotel from 1865 to 1870; both buildings remain extant today as private homes or vacation rentals. A post office called Llanos Post Office opened on December 4, 1911; it closed March 3, 1912 due to mail fraud by James Waddell who used the name Manuel Flores for his own business purposes while operating a post office out of Llanos Rancho Viejo east of Lubbock Junction where he lived with his wife Rufina Flores (née Martinez). In 1928 what is now Fourth Street became main street after Dallas Cowboys player Tony Dorsett moved into one house there which still stands today next door to Seventh Street Baptist Church which served as parish hall/venue from 1928-1966 when it became First Baptist Church of Dallas & Southeast Community Church before being sold back to the congregation in 1967 . Dumasa had its own bank from 1907 until 1959 when Alamogordo Bank merged withDallas National Bank . From 1915 until 1924 there also been an insurance company called Gorman Brothers Insurance which located at 524 Main Street SE Another early industry here were cattle drives led by Major General John Sinton starting around 1910 centered around Slaughter Valley west of town going all the way upriver past Midland Park into Canyon Lake where gilded Roundups were driven acrossolinearly this century culminating at Laguna Vista Dam but most recently terminated about 1950s when water levels rose making roundup possible no longer allowed commercial harvesting except during low water periods only hunting trophies remain
In 1836, the Republic of Texas was founded and its capital was located in San Antonio. In 1839, a new state, Mexico, was formed and the capital was moved to Mexico City. In 1845, Texas seceded from Mexico and became an independent country. The capital was moved to Austin in 1849 and it remains there today.
