From the time Marines first arrived in Dickinson, Texas during World War II, they have been an integral part of the community. Over the years, Marines have donated items and services to local businesses and organizations. Some of the most famous donations by Marines include a tank battalion’s worth of combat vehicles from World War II that were Museum-graded and given to Dickinson High School; a supply truck that has been parked on Main Street for many years as a donation from Marine Corps Air Station Moody; a large flagpole that was gifted to Dickinson Elementary School in 2002 by then-Marine Sgt. 1st Class Allen Ladd; and countless amounts of toys, clothes, books, games, food and other supplies to local schools throughout the area. In honor of their contributions over the years, Marines are currently being inducted into the Dickinson County Marine Corp Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 10th at 11am at Good Shepherd Baptist Church located in downtown Dickinson.

Dickinson is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Dickinson is located on the Brazos River and borders Austin to the east and Round Rock to the west. The first permanent settler in what became Dickinson was James Hance who arrived in 1836 during Black Hawk War. Hance's family moved to what is now Sunnyside Drive in 1837 from Missouri City, which they had founded four years earlier. Dickinson was founded by John Dickinson Sr., one of three brothers who emigrated from Pennsylvania in 1838 with their parents and siblings-two sisters and three sons-to start a new life in what would become Texas. They named their new village "Dickinson" for Colonel George Washington Richardson (1785-1859), an American Revolutionary War general and friend of their father. A few months after its founding, Dickinson got its own courthouse but it never served as a justice of the peace because no judge could be found from within that radius due to conflicts with other townships nearby. The first post office opened at Dickinson on November 12, 1839; it continued operations until May 11, 1840 when it merged with another post office established just northwest of town – Carthage – to form the present day Hudspeth County Courthouse complex. In 1850, William Beaumont discovered oil reserves near Dickinson while drilling for water supplies for his ranch operation around Hudspeth County seat Carthage; this led to increased mining activity around Dickinson and other parts of Hudspeth County during this time period In 1860BP J P Morgan sent floor gangs working under him through Carville Creek into sections surrounding Dickinson looking for oil wells but they never found any significant amounts of oil although some did occur later on elsewhere along Carville Creek where surface water tables were below ground After coming back out he brought an equipment company called Society Brothers Oil Company which drilled 10 wells between 1865-70 producing over $1 million dollars before being taken over by Houston Oil Co However following Gulf War I there were several bankruptcies throughout TexacoTexaco eventually merged into ConocoPhillips Chevron finally took over Texaco in 2003 Although much has changed since then including various technological advancements such as fracking production increased slightly following shale gas exploration starting up here again however overall land values have not kept up
