Dickinson, Texas is a small town located in Hidalgo County, Texas. It is one of the oldest communities in the area and has been around since 1836. The first gun shop in Dickinson opened its doors in 1877. The Gunsmith Shop was built by William Broughton and his son-in-law, John W. Caldwell. In 1912, the Caldwell Store closed down and was replaced by a new store called the Dickenson Store which operated until 1975. In that year, Dickinson's first handgun sales took place at the Dickenson Store. Dickinson, Texas is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The first white settlers to Dickinson were James and Rebecca Livingston who arrived in 1844. They founded a farm on what is now known as Livingston Road. In 1847, a group of Methodist missionaries by the name of Roper journeyed through Webb County and stopped in Dickinson while on their way to preach at Beaumont. From this visit some began to settle around Dickinson Creek which became known as "the creek that ran red." In 1849, two brothers named John Cavanaugh and Michael Malone settled near present day Deer Park Boulevard and built a cabin there for themselves and their families. On July 10th of that year, Dickinsonbecame an independent municipality with its own government under the leadership of Mayor Drury Prentice. In 1850 it voted to become an agricultural center with its own irrigation system-an important development because it allowed Dickinson to become self-sufficient in agriculture rather than depending on outside assistance such as donations from other towns in Webb County. In1855 the first educational institution opened up in Dickinson when local Methodists established chapel schools which continues operate today as Butler Independent School District One (BISD). It was during this time that also major changes took place within the community; Namely when Drury Prentice organized what would later be called the "Dickinson Faire" or carnival which featured music, games and attractions for children throughout Webster Parish from September 15th through October 3rd each year since 1868 until 1958 when it was replaced by Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport's Texas State Fairgrounds due to budget cuts though still being held annually at Dickenson Stadium located adjacent Interstate 639 between Shepherd Drive and I-635 where it has been every year since then

Over time, Dickinson has grown to include a population of over 10,000 people. The town is located in Hudspeth County on the eastern edge of Texas. It is bordered on the north by San Angelo and on the east by Vernon County. The terrain is rolling and hilly, with several small hills reaching up to 2,500 feet (600 meters). There are several natural reservoirs in the area that provide water for local mills and homes. Dickinson's economy has been based largely on agriculture since it was established. Today, the town's main industry is tourism, which provides jobs for many people including those involved in manufacturing goods exported to Europe or other parts of Asia. Some of the most notable landmarks in Dickinson are the James A. Mickelson House – once home to one of Dickinson's three mayors – as well as downtown's courthouse and jail buildings.
