He started selling coffee beans and roasted them himself, which gave the town its first cup of Joe. In the 1950s, Harry's son-in-law, Don Robertson bought the store and continued running it until his death in 2002. The business passed hands again in 2006 when Don's widow sold it to her daughter, Kim Robertson. Kim kept the name of the business but changed its focus to roasting coffee. In 2018, she reopened the store under the name Dickenson Coffee Company with help from her husband Matt Roberts and their team of employees.
Dickinson, Texas is a small town located in eastern Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. In terms of size and population density, Dickinson ranks fifth in the United States behind Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Wichita, Kansas; and Topeka, Kansas. The town was founded by John Dickinson in 1872 as a trading post on the Arkansas River between what is now Tellico Hills and Williamson County. The post office was renamed Dickinson in 1886 after John's grandson George C. Dickinson Sr., who had served as U.S. Minister to China from 1865-1867 under President Abraham Lincoln. John Haney Dickinson built his home here in 1892 and became one of the largest landholders in the area with over 10 square miles (25 km²). He also engaged in cattle ranching and shipping until his death in 1928 at age 91 years old. His wife Anna Laughlin Dickinson led a long life as an educator here before she passed away in 1984 at age 90 years old. Their son Harry Aiken Haney became president of the University of Texas at Austin (UTA) after they divorced when he married Jane Addams White Willisney later that year. In 2013–14, dickinsonians erected a plaque honoring Ida B Wells – an American historian who has been largely forgotten despite her significant contributions to American history – on Main Street near her namesake institution (Ida B Wells College), which remains one of downtown's most visible landmarks today despite its decline during modern times due to budget cuts by UTA trustees since 2011-12.. Dickersonians have also made donations to IBC over time through various programs including historical events/demonstrations/street festivals where money provides prizes for local residents’ participation.;[1]
