Desoto, Texas is a small town located in the US state of Texas. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Desoto" comes from the Hopi word tse’o’o, meaning “place where there are no trees.” In 1836, General Antonio López de Santa Anna discovered and named this region after his childhood home in Zacatecas, Mexico. After Mexican independence from Spain in 1848, Desoto became part of new Mexico and its capital was moved to Mexico City. At that time, many settlers arrived here from what is now Oklahoma Territory. By 1870, Desoto had a post office and school district with a population of only 50 people. In 1902, Judge Augustus Fenton built the first store in Desoto on North Main Street. The store served as a center for local trade until it burned down in 1922. A few years later another store was built on East Seventh Street by banker Rufus Erwin Welch Jr., which helped bring growth to the community during World War II when Desoto became an airfield refueling station for B-29s flying over Nazi Germany. In 1951, Mayor Harry Wolk erected a convenience store known as The Gilded Cage to promote economic development inDesoto and neighboring towns such as Flower Mound and Palestine Springs while he served two terms as mayor (1951-1954). A second convenience store opened at 1116 E Commerce St., also known as The Gilded Cage Builders Club shop chain founder Melvin Heller's former business venture into retail industry followed suit less than one year later; however both stores closed within months due to competition from nearby Fort Worth's Sam's Club Warehouse superstores which then dominated shopping opportunities for those living within desOTO boundaries In 1957 unincorporated parts of Desoto east of I-35E were annexed by Fort Worth creating an even more enlarged city limits encompassing all or most of present day Flower Mound/Palestine Springs/Northwest Arlington/Southwest Dallas neighborhoods including much downtown commercial real estate currently zoned for use only by desotted developers

Desoto, Texas is a small town located in southeastern Travis County, Texas. The population was 2,851 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first Desoto settlers arrived in 1836 and named it after General Antonio Luna's Rancho San Antonio dedoseado, which was located about 9 miles west of present-day Desoto. In 1845, José A. Caballeros granted 160 acres (60 ha) of land to David Hockaday and his wife Eliza who settled there with their five children under the name "Hockaday". In 1868, James W. Richardson surveyed an area including what is now Desoto and platted it as a town on May 6th under the name "Richardson's Colony". That same year John Fenton purchased 469 acres (200 ha) from James Richardson for $1,000 and set about building a new home for himself and his family near what is now downtown Desoto. Fenton's home became known as Richardson House & Ford Store; it still stands today on South First Street across from theDesoto Independent School District Administration Building). By 1870, most of East Side development had taken place with businesses such as Richardsons Ford Store (now part of JCPenney), Pearsons grocery store, Gourdine millinery store and others opening up around First & Congress Streets in what are now Northeast Plaza & North Loop Drive neighborhoods within central Desoto proper - until white settlement supplanted African American settlement in this area beginning in earnest during Reconstruction following America's Civil War (1865-1876). In 1872 William Cordero sold 1 acre (40 m²) of land at what is now Northwest corner Third Street & University Boulevard to Hockaday family for $2 per acre ($2400 total). This parcel would become Home Place Farms which prospered until 1951 when it was destroyed by fire caused by lightning while being used for storage by Texaco oil workers employed by Gulf Oil Company when that company leased its old Anadarko Refinery lot adjacent to Home Place Farms from Anadarko Petroleum Company effective December 15th 1950 seismic survey work began preparatory to Embankment Dam construction commenced January 1st 1951 several families occupying former pens/houses were relocated prior to demolition/clearance; some remain extant on property since then including: Bechtel family who operate Bechtel Broadcasting Corporation television station KGTV 8 out of Dallas TX
